The month of May is not a good time to visit.
The month of May is not a good time to visit. The snow has gone but summer is not here yet. In this twilight zone between winter and summer it is just one of many tourist towns that is instantly forgettable. We regret we didn’t stay just across the border in Martigny which has so much culture that is completely lacking in Chamonix. The only visitors to this town seemed to be bucket-price tour groups from the far east.

I am slightly disabled in that my mobility is restricted by arthritis. Chamonix is a beautiful town in itself but it can be difficult to get around at night.I wanted to check out the live music scene but had real difficulty with transport.Although it is free,or cheap all day it is nearly impossible to get a taxi (unless I have been calling the wrong numbers!).I was told by some locals that they are tied up doing airport runs, how true this is I don't know. I think if you have similar problems then book a long time ahead or online.Otherwise the place is brilliant you have breathtaking views of the high mountains above, alpine meadows and a town that wants for nothing. It is easy to visit Les houches Argentiere and all the beautiful ski areas, even if you can't ski there are mountain railways and cable cars. Expensive but well with it. It is becoming my second home now.

A many time visitor, easy to get about on buses or train and some of the best off-piste there is anywhere. Looking forward to the re-opening of the top cable car so the biggest / best runs will be accessible once again. CMD make sure you don't go down the road Vial and Alterra have taken (selling season passes and driving up day tickets to drive sales of these products and thus maxing out their profits) - On vous voyons!!

Skiing in Chamonix is extreemly snow dependant.
Skiing in Chamonix is extreemly snow dependant. Should you be lucky enough to have several days of powder, each of the individual resourts are more than large enough with loads of off-piste opportunites to ski.
However, as this is a season with limitid snow conditions, each individual resourt becomes too small, with too many people on the piste, as there is too litle snow in the terrain. As such, I would much rather recommend the surronding resorts such as Courmayeur or Verbier for a weeks stay, as you then get away from the dayly transport with busses etc.
The need to tranfere between the different resorts to ski by buss is also a negative aspect, as it is pure madness with everyone trying to get on the first bus that comes. I would definitely not recommend Chamonix for families based on this, as younger children would strugle with the stampede....
As a town Chamonix has a lot to offer, with good shops and resturants, but as a ski destination, I will probably not return, but head off to larger interconnected resorts.

The Chamonix valley provides some of the most amazing alpine scenery anywhere. The mountains are stunning and the opportunities for ski and snowboard adventures in winter are endless. That said, this is not the best choice for beginners or early intermediate skiers or boarders. The majority of the terrain is challenging. Also, be prepared to take the free ski bus up and down the valley to experience all that Chamonix has to offer. The main town has an abundance of great restaurants, bars and shops, but consider staying in one of the quieter villages along the valley if you want to avoid the crowds in peak season.

We had lovely view from the balcony on the Mont-Blanc. The staff all spoke English, were friendly and helpful on the front desk. Free parking was helpful, but only you had lucky enough to find one. We thought the hotel is in the center, but actually not. We didn't used our car, we were affraid the lose our space. The staff offered a free bus service what took 10 minutes to get into Chamonix center which is 6km.
The hotel is tastefully decorated, very clean and offers amazing views over Mont Blanc. We’ve been upgraded to the family room- a nice 2 level appartment- at no extra cost. The public transport is 1 min away and you can be in center Chamonix in 5 min or a brisk 20min walk through the forest. this is the best accommodation we’ve stayed at in France. Will definitely come back.
Beautiful hotel --walking distance to everything in the village. Facilities were updated, modern-- brilliant refurbishing- incorporating the old with the new. Views from the room right out to the lifts and mountains. Bathroom was updated and modern --fantastic shower - Service from all the staff was A+! Walking distance to everything in the village.
Location: The best! In the centre od Chamonix. Room: Mont Blanc room wast the best choice for us (family of 4) - amazing view! It was like a small flat, not room :) Service: We apreciated tea and coffee for free. Hotel: Old furnitured, but this is understandable. We liked hotel club for evening meetings with our friends.
Hotel is located just 2 mins walk from cable car and 7-8 mins from city centre. Staff was very helpful. The ski pass is cheaper if you buy from the reception. The reception staff helped us to call few places and check if the activities are available. Hot tub was great. Good view of Mont Blanc from balcony.
When in Chamonix we always try to stay in your hotel if rooms are available- at least end of ski season and late summer 😊
we love the location of hotel, the parking space which is more than rare in Chamonix, the breakfast variety, the afternoon coffee/tea and cake … new the water maker: simply great
From the moment we walked in we were absolutely delighted!
The location was 5 stars, ideal location to walk to skiing, the room was very comfortable and I actually think their pictures don’t do the room justice because it is roomy and cozy. Jacuzzi and sauna was exactly what we needed every night.
Nicely renovated hotel reserving the history of the building, plenty of great restaurants, plenty of entertainment, choreographed dance shows. Bed was very comfortable. Good value for money, considering the location was close to the Main Street. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
welll the whole hotel is just exceptional. The breakfast is fenomenal, the stuff is super friendly. Overall great hotel in a nice off town location within walking distance to the PlanPraz ski resort. Each room has a view over the mountains.
Great hotel with amazing view from the room and charming sitting area. Room is clean and cozy; bed is very comfortable. The personel is helpful and kind. Thanks a lot for upgrading our room. We will be definitely back!
The hotel is located near the Chamonix train station, offering a stunning view of Aiguille du Midi when you walk out of the main entrance. The apartment is super clean, calm, and the facilities are convenient.
The view of Mont Blanc from our room was amazing. The hotel was close enough to walk into Chamonix and Aquille du Midi. Half board was value for money and there was a good selection for breakfast.
The hotel located really near to gare sncf and gare montenvers. 10-15 minutes walk to the city centre. The room that we stay was great for value with mont blanc view. The staff are great.
Excellent location & very friendly staff. Also very good breakfast with cheap price.
If I plan to visit Chamonix again, I will reserve in the same hotel
