The Glory of Medieval England
Lincoln was a powerhouse of medieval England and retains amazing monuments from that period. In the Uphill district is the castle built for William the Conqueror. Inside its an original copy of the Magna Carta and its ramparts offer fabulous city views. Across the cobbled square which houses the large Christmas market is huge Lincoln Cathedral whose unusual façade features 2 tall towers, while another at its centre overlooks the Bishop’s Palace.
Connecting the cathedral quarter with the Downhill district is aptly named Steep Hill, a narrow street lined with unique shops and historic buildings including the Jew’s House. Even older are the Roman Newport Arch, Mint Wall and the well on Bailgate.
This road slopes down to meet the River Witham at High Bridge, a stone-arched structure with a half-timbered building atop that is the oldest of its kind in England. Lincoln boat trips depart from the Brayford Pool just west.
Another monument is the 18th-century Ellis Mill, opposite the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. The Collection combines an archaeology museum and art gallery, while The Lawn has a conference centre and the Joseph Banks Conservatory, displaying artefacts he brought back from adventures with Captain Cook.

Nawet o 2 w nocy. Hotel jest położony w centrum, przy dosyć ruchliwej ulicy. Często tłumy rozśpiewanej młodzieży zagłuszały nocną ciszę ale to nie wina hotelu. Trzeba jednak być na to przygotowanym. Ostatnia rzecz to niestety brak normalnego prysznica, tylko zamontowany w ścianie natrysk. Bardzo uciążliwe.JJoannaWielka Brytania
