Hotel Posada de Valdezufre, hotel in Aracena

A period manor house dating back to the end of the 19th century, situated in a stunning setting, within the Aracena and Picos de Aroche nature reserve.

We had an exceptional stay at the hotel, it's such a beautiful building located in a very picturesque town surrounded by mountains and meadows. The renovated traditional house was so well-done and cosy, outside areas were stunningly beautiful as well. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and even though we arrived very late, just before 23:00 we were still able to have a nice dinner in the restaurant. Not to mention the fact that we travelled with our dog and she was very well taken care of and welcomed as well. Thank you for an amazing experience!

Hotel Sierra de Aracena, hotel in Aracena

Hotel Sierra de Aracena is in Aracena, in Andalusia’s Sierra de Aracena Mountains. Wi-Fi is free in public areas and rooms offer TV and private bathrooms.

The hotel was right in the middle of town and an easy walk to the grotto and the castle. The hotel was very clean and though a little dated, very comfortable and we received a warm reception from the staff. The room in the attic was nice and comfortable and had what we needed for the 2 nights we were there. There was a nice coffee shop next door.

Apartamento Zulema, hotel in Aracena

Apartamento Zulema is situated in Aracena, 36 km from Estación de Cataveral, 44 km from Estación El Martajal, and 200 metres from La Gruta de las Maravillas.

The location. I stayed in the same apartments in the autumn of 2004, when I was looking for a house in the area. The location is still good, although the hotel which used to run the apartments, is now closed and there's an atmosphere of being abandoned. The apartment is small, but you can find everything listed on the website by "name", obviously it's bought from the local cheap Chinese shop and it's of the worst posible quality. The shower was good...there was hot water....and the WC flushed well. Well, that was nice...

I visited in the first week in March.

I visited in the first week in March. It was colder than I expected (daytime highs of 11-16C). I was primarily interested in hiking and booked a rental car. Aracena is close to all the hikes in my guidebook so I only encountered the town itself in the evening getting groceries and finding restaurants. As always with Spain, it's so frustrating that no restaurants open until 8.30pm, some have "days off" which are not announced and many, even in March, were entirely closed. One really needs a local to help navigate where to eat. Having said that, it's incredible value for money. Dinner with wine for 20 Euros (March 2024).

Aracena was a cute town with a lot of surprises.

Aracena was a cute town with a lot of surprises. The people are friendly and the town is clean and safe. Be sure to visit the Gruta de la Maravillas, a network of caves with wonderful stalactites and stalagmites and underground lakes. Also, the pork in Aracena is to die for. It's the land of Jabugo, the best dried ham in the world.

Although the apartment looked to be placed far away, it was close to the center by walking. The staff of the hotel was really kind and friendly as well. We would have liked to stay much longer than expected, we spent only a night there though.

Aracena is a picturesque town in a protected natural park setting. It is an excellent base for hiking and has numerous world class restaurants with most specializing in local ingredients including world famous Iberian pork products. Although people of Seville spent their leisure time here historically, it is only starting to get recognized in other parts of Spain and Europe. It is a true hidden gem and a must visit in Spain.

This former convent was charming and historic and cool in the unbearable heat. It is well located within this small town, with parking facilities, welcoming staff, quiet and visually pleasing exterior and cloisters. The room was spacious and clean, with an enormous very comfortable bed, and lovely bathing products. The swimming pool is clean with good shaded seating areas, a bar, and lovely surrounds. The buffet breakfast is delightful.
