If you seek a different type of holiday then this is the place to base yourself and explore the surrounding area
The cave rooms where clean , light and airy— beautifully maintained . BBQ facilities available plus if it gets chilly a log burning stove in the lounge soon heats up the cave .
The hosts Laetitia and her husband Roberto go out of there way to ensure you have a great time
Highly recommend and we will certainly be returning

Galera is a small rural village.
Galera is a small rural village. On the positive side it is picturesque especially the cave houses and church, all white-painted. It is fascinating to see an unspoilt and untouristy village with these cave houses. The Bodega Domingo y Quiles has moved to more modern accommodation but if you speak Spanish is really worth a visit both for education and to taste the wines (which we liked a lot - though atypically dry partly because they are made for local tastes and partly because of the effect of the extreme temperature contrasts in the region on the grape ripening). On the negative side, there's not a lot to do in the village and no highly-rated restaurants to my knowledge. But there are interesting sites nearby to drive to. We visited in a heatwave so ended up not exploring much - do watch out for hot summers and cold winters here.

A friendly place to visit, with good local bars, cafes, restaurants. It is a small town in the countryside. A good place to stroll around in the daytime or evening. It is in an area where cave houses are prevalent and this makes walking around all the more interesting, not being used to seeing them in such numbers.

We enjoyed visits to nearby places of interest including 2 embalses (reservoirs), museums showing remnants of the first ever European settlements, walks to the high point of the plateau with the dog, good restaurants and of course the experience of living in a cave house. Ree and Stuart, our hosts were next door and gave us good advice on places to eat and to visit. All in all it was a holiday to remember with great pleasure and we will certainly return there.

Excellent position to visit the area to include Castril (Spectacular gorge), Orce - prehistoric site of international interest as well as very picturesque countryside - varying from lovely open plains/plateaux to spectacular mountain passes and reservoirs and streams We ate mostly in the Hotel - excellent choice of menu and quality/quantity of portions - you didn't go away hungry. The Museum in Galera is well worth a visit - very interesting and well presented for such a small village.MichaelSpain
