We stayed in Getaria as a base to enjoy all of the surrounding areas. It was well situated between towns. We saw a soccer game in Bilbao one night and drove to France the next day. We enjoyed walking around Getaria in the mornings and the kids played on playgrounds around the town. It seems very peaceful! Great vistas of the ocean.

Getaria is a small port with 2 streets of restaurants and bars, but it is a charming place to visit the Flysch(Itsrun) and not far from San Sebastian. The txakoli vineyards in the area are charming and the seafood is also good.

In Getaria you have a wide range of restaurants to choose from, and lively tapas bars , a very good outdoor bar overlooking the harbor .
Safe beaches to swim , very clean.
Lovely walks to Zumaia on the St James Way , and to Zarautz
It’s also well worth going to the top of San Anton , for the lovely views
Our apartment was perfect to enjoy all these things .

An "ok" place to use as a base for day-trips in the Bilbao/...
An "ok" place to use as a base for day-trips in the Bilbao/San Sebastian area. However, Getaria is a very small village. Other than a beach and restaurants, there's not much to do. Having said that, it is an excellent location as a base to visit the many, many other areas/sites in this Northern Spain area. However, if I was looking for a "home base" I would probably stay in the next town over, Zazautz.

Very expensive. Trying to compete with San Sebastian.
Very expensive. Trying to compete with San Sebastian. Beaches are great. Place is not dog freindly. Usual problem - when restaurant says open from 11am to 11pm, beware the kitchen will not be open for those times.
Beautiful boutique hotel managed by family :) interior full of small details, made with the taste and for the comfort of the guests, cool terrace, open kitchen for common use. The garden is super nice - huge plantations of grapes, lots of flowers, trees, grass and petit lake, all is harmonious, peaceful, well maintained. Good shower and comfy bed, all clean. Breakfast is perfect - tortilla or eggs, fresh orange juice, fruit, different teas and lots of bakery :) attention paid to everything , owners are doing their best🌺
The hotel was located in beautiful surroundings, there was a picturesque view from the window. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was simple and decent, coffee was great. In summertime the hotel is most likely really lovely (we spent only one windy & rainy night in the wintertime), and it would surely be worthy of getting to know the family tradition with wine production better!
Javier, Sara and the other family members were delightful. They were fluent in English. The facility was fabulous and had a view from their deck that was dramatic. Great shower!
The hotel referred our group of Camino del Norte pilgrims to a seafood restaurant that everyone raved about. In addition to superb food, they had an extensive wine selection.
I arrived very late at 23.00 hours. The staff helped me to enter the hotel although it was already closed. They made a special videa to explain the opening of the frontdoor with a cart, to find in a letterbox. They were so helpfull! Many compliments to them! I highly recommand to take the breakfast with the gorgeous view on the sea.
Room was spacious, views from our room were AMAZING, and the staff was so kind and helpful. They even accommodated laundry for us (although they don’t typically do so). Breakfast was delicious. Plus a shared balcony space to watch the sunset. Overall our stay at Saiaz Getaria exceeded our expectations and we would highly recommend!!
Nice owner.
Good check-in with convenient keyless locks.
Brand new place.
Amazing restaurants right across from the hotel. All with wood-fired grills.
Convenient to beach and bus stop.
Great walk up the hill partially by escalator and elevator(surprise!) to a green valley of vineyards and gardens. Beautiful!
Small cosy hotel run by 2 friendly sisters. Love the homely environment with sofas, dining tables and kitchen with glasses, plates, cutlery where you can have your own meals. Lovely view of the rolling hills and vineyards, and the sea. Wish we had stayed longer so we can do more hikes around the place.
Very clean, quiet, small establishment, comfortable room, nice bath. Views wonderful of vineyard. Wine, Gaintza, very good and nice tour as winery attached. The Camino de Santiago next to hotel and can walk any direction to other towns.
Staff very accommodating and can make some tours.
It was exceptional! beautifully appointed and a luxurious apartment. So comfortable and quiet. Excellent location and wonderful host. The best place we’ve stayed in all our travels. Will return here should we visit beautiful Getaria again. excellent value for money. The Best!!!!
Fantastic location, right outside the old village (wonderful fish restaurants ) and less then 5 min from the beach.
Getaria is a very cosy place with a nice beach.I highly recommend it. There are frequent buses to San Sebastian.
Comfortable, neat and clean. It had its own parking which is a huge asset for Getaria.
The apartment included recycling bins, hair dryer and soap + shampoo.
Very friendly staff that was very accessible if we needed anything.
Perfect guesthouse right on the Camino. Lovely hosts who gave us great tips for the next day of walking. worth carrying on from Zarautz to Getaria because it’s an easy extra walk and gives you a good head start the next day.
Amazing location in the centre of Getaria. Design of room was very modern, cleanliness was excellent and the view up the main street was awesome. We didn’t have breakfast but the bar downstairs was comfortable and welcoming.
A home away from home. What a Charme¡
One of the most beautiful hotels I've ever been in years.
The location was superb and the room magical.
I count the days to return as soon as posibble.
