Melilla is a hidden gem of Spain I think.

Melilla is a hidden gem of Spain I think. We were there right after Christmas, the weather was rather warm (around +20 C), the city was wonderfully decorated and very lively in the evenings with restaurants full of people, music playing everywhere and lots of entertainment including entertainment for children. The nature is stunning, especially parks. Architecture is also quite nice, also there is an ancient castle. In December there were not many tourists and what amazed me most - almost nobody speaks English, even at the airport, so prepare to speak Spanish :D Speaking about airport, it is so near that we just walked from there to the center of the city in 40 minutes. Prices are quite low as Melilla is a tax-free zone.

What was extraordinarily wonderful was the people: so kind and friendly. The lovely green parks were a bastion of harmony and conviviality. Even the dogs seemed happier. It was burning hot during our stay in October but the evenings brought breezes. Melilla seemed not to be as expensive Madrid or Barcelona. The museums were well done and modern. We loved the parks. A few suggestions: the cat population is a bit too much because in certain areas they poop and this creates flies. Another suggestion: about 45 percent are Arabs yet almost there little mention of them not of the contribution they and their predecesors, the Moors, made throughout the ages, especially after 1,500s. Otherwise it is a delightful city that I recommend visiting.

This outpost of Spain on the North African coast is a hidden gem. The Alcazar is larger than any other castle I have visited, and the Modernist buildings were beautiful. I only wish I had given myself at least another two days

Melilla is ok for a short break (a weekend maximum).

Melilla is ok for a short break (a weekend maximum). There aren't masses of things to see or do. Allow a day to see the old town, which also has some small museums and an art gallery. The highlight is the caves at the convent which take you all the way down to the beach (there are 6 tours per day). Apart from that, there are some beautiful buildings within the golden triangle, parque Hernandez, plaza de espana. Food recommendations are la Traviata if you are looking for more elegant, or disco burguer if not. Fab cocktails at Dry Ocho. Word of warning: be very careful with beggars (most of whom appear to be Moroccan immigrants). Teenagers with tracksuits and hoodies that don't take no for an answer and are very persistant. They also operate in pairs for distraction, particularly in quiet streets. Be firm. If you decide to pass through the border to Morocco on foot (e.g. to reach Nador) things get worse with groups of begging youths along the entire route. At the border crossing keep all valuables in inside or closed pockets, backpacks on your front, and do not take out your passport for anybody asking about your stamps unless they are in official uniform.

Everything was incredibly perfect: accommodation, location, neighbourhood, amenities, the whole area, weather and the host lady = the owner of the property is top cool, above all, so friendly and caring. She's been maintaining the whole visitor's experience on top levels. Melilla is a perfect place. Spain in Africa.

The hotel is centrally located and close to all main attractions. The receptionist was very helpful pointing out many of the important landmarks on a map and suggesting places to eat. The room was adequate and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was good and there was a selection of dishes available.
