As a village, Birdlip has no other facilities; it isn’t a big place and it seems many villages in the Cotswolds don’t have so much as a corner shop. Birdlup is no exception. But that’s not what it’s about. The village is very conveniently placed for visiting many of the attractions in the Cotswolds; Gloucester is only a few minutes drive away, Cirencester is not far. There are numerous parks, beauty spots, and places to enjoy nature nearby ( driving distance). There are numerous National Trust sites within a 30 mile radius and transport links (Birdlip is just off the A417) are good. Warwickshire, Worcestershire, even the eastern borders of Wales aren’t too far away. Birdlip is a reasonably attractive village and there are some public footpaths leading out into the lovely Cotswolds countryside for those able and willing to do some walking. It is a hilly area though, so expect some exertion to be necessary.
At night, traffic in Birdlip seems to be pretty much non existent, and although the A417 is close by, traffic noise just drops off to the faintest of levels; we had our bedroom window wide open and barely heard it. For this reason alone, Birdlip is an excellent place to stay so that after a day of driving to various attractions, you get back to a peaceful evening and an undisturbed sleep.
It has one pub/hotel/restaurant, the Royal George Inn, which is friendly, relaxed, welcoming and comfortable.

Birdlip is a great place for walking.
Birdlip is a great place for walking. We did 2 long walks from the village, one which involved a lot of steep hills and the other through some beautiful meadows and valleys. The countryside is stunning and we only saw a couple of other people on our walks.

It was only about 10 minutes from M5. Small pretty village but not much else there. No good unless you come by car, plenty of free parking onsite of Royal George Hotel where we stayed. They do great, reasonably priced food.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was very warm and comfortable. There was plenty of parking on site. An extra bonus was a lovely walk through woods and fields directly from the hotel.

We only stayed for four nights as we had trips planned in the wider area. It does however seem a good area for walkers with lots of walks nearby. Unfortunately we only did one due to having other commitments.
I attended a wedding there and I thought the facilities and the location was absolutely perfect. The property itself offers a relaxed atmosphere that is absolutely paramount for a stress free wedding.
The wedding hall opposite the hotel was so delightfully intimate and added such a beautiful romantic touch to the ceremony.
The Cotswold stone and the interior design of an old English inn Offered a charm of bygone days which resulted in a lovely warm atmosphere.
Food portions were good. The staff were helpful. The room was big. The pub/hotel is an interesting architectural feature and stands well in the village. However it is next to the main road cutting through Birdlip. Birdlip is very handy for touring around the lower Cotswolds and walking the Cotswolds Way. There were lots of walkers staying at the hotel. Large free car park at the side and back. The view from the top floor bedroom window was rather nice.
On the upside the location of the hotel was excellent as a base for exploring the area. The room was basic, with older decor, and only 2 plug points but it was clean and the beds were very comfortable so would say was good value. Staff on reception were friendly and helpful.
The hotel was clean and comfortable. The room was large and had a very comfortable big bed. There was plenty of wardrobe space and drawers. My only complaint was the lighting, it was quite dark. The evening meal was delicious and inexpensive and breakfast was very good
Room came equipped with a bath in the en-suite which was a lovely bonus to the shower. My partner and I enjoyed exploring the grounds of the hotel as well. Nice beer garden. Attractive architecture of the surroundings too.
Lovely hotel located in a quaint, tranquil and picturesque village. Perfect setting for a relaxing getaway.
There were lots of positives for this hotel on the whole and I would be happy to come back for further visits.
Dinner and breakfast were equal to or perhaps better than the usual high standard that we expect from Greene King pubs and hotels. This hotel is an older, character building and provides a warm atmosphere.
The hotel is in a superb central location for doing activities in the Cotswolds area. It is friendly, relaxed, comfortable and clean. It’s a very pleasant place to stay and we will certainly book again.
Lovely, clean hotel. The bar and restaurant had amazing drinks and food. Thank you to all the staff that made us feel very welcoming. Great location for walks to see the Cotswold.
Birdlip is acute town and part of walking the Cotswold Way if you are doing that. This was a charming hotel. We had a nice little patio off our room which was lovely.
Spacious room with very comfortable, large bed - had a peaceful night's sleep. Nicely decorated hotel reception, bar and restaurant. Helpful and cheerful staff.
