The Trout at Tadpole Bridge, hotel in Faringdon

Just beside the River Thames, The Trout at Tadpole Bridge enjoys an idyllic location between Oxford and the Cotswolds.

Our accommodation was large and comfy. Despite being close to a well used road, The Trout is located in a quiet area. We stayed mid week when the pub was less busy than probably weekends. We had dinner and breakfast there, both of which were excellent

Breakfast was very good. Yoghurt would have been nice as well. Comfy bed. Lovely little village, close to several natural attractions. Good walk in shower but a proper shelf is needed in the bathroom instead of that plastic surround.

New Inn Hotel, hotel in Faringdon

Ideally situated on the banks of the River Thames in the market town of Lechlade-on-Thames, this characteristic 17th century coaching inn blends 250 years of hospitality with state-of-the New Inn p...

This was an old inn, comfortable and easy-going but not smart. Our room (first-floor double) was well lit and had a nice view of the curving high street, Good parking at the back, through an arch. Lechlade is a small market town on the upper Thames, with an 18th-century bridge. The long-distance Thames footpath runs past. Only a few miles away (walking distance for the fit) there is a National Trust house, Buscot Park, and also Kelmscott, once the home of William Morris, also often open to the public. In Buscot church there are several stained-glass windows by his friend and artistic associate, Burne-Jones.

We only had time to visit one (fairly) local restaurant - the Lamb, and unfortunately (or just our bad luck!) the waitress got our order wrong and meant a long delay waiting for the main course. However, we didn't see much of Faringdon as it was dark.

This is a pub but the rooms are out the back, single story cabins like a motel. It is very very quiet and car parking is excellent. The address says Faringdon but the pub is not in Faringdon it is in the small village of Uffington. I knew this but others booking on the site might be confused. The cooked breakfast is traditional, well done.

We were unable to find anything to like in Farringdon.

We were unable to find anything to like in Farringdon. Sorry, but it's a dump. Apart from the supermarkets on its outskirts (should you need them) there is nothing to go into Farringdon for. Well, the chippy was quite good.

Lovely hotel, great location, good country walks nearby.

Lovely hotel, great location, good country walks nearby. Staff friendly and welcoming. Near small village town with some shops, pubs and take-aways. A very nice cake shop reasonably priced. Breakfast at the hotel was the same everyday which was disappointing, l understood they couldn’t have a buffet due to COVID 19 but l think they could have changed things slightly every couple of days, portion size quite small too and no fruit provided. Limited evening meal selection and quite pricey for what it was. Felt COVID secure in the hotel as everyone was required to wear masks everywhere apart when seated for breakfast, dinner or drink in the bar area and there were hand sanitisers sited across communal areas. All in all a very enjoyable trip apart from the weather, it rained heavily for the 3 days we were there!

Faringdon is a old market town, and is attractive in the centre, with lots of ancient buildings, but extensive modern building around the outskirts is a lot less pretty. You can walk around the centre easily. We drove in, parked, and got the bus to Oxford. Buses are frequent (mostly every 20 minutes) and the journey takes 41 minutes. We did not eat in Faringdon as we ate every evening in the wonderful restaurant at our hotel (Eagle Tavern) in Little Coxwell. There is very good walking nearby (Ridgeway, Thames Path), as well as the southern edge of the Cotswolds and, of course, Oxford.

Didn't visit Faringdon on this trip, but I am originally from Oxford and have been there quite a few times. It's a very nice little town with good access to both Oxford and Swindon and the countryside around these places

Location - good to travel around and less expensive than the more popular towns. Hotel has character, very old but rooms refurbished to a good standard. Great water pressure, amazing towels 🙂 Recommend the Court room for a special occasion, it was really luxurious. Staff all very pleasant and attentive. Good bar - great selection of drinks. Saw some delicious looking cocktails being made. Outdoor central courtyard good for drinks in the sun. A problem with my booking caused by Booking com was swiftly and generously resolved.

I am so pleased that I booked this hotel. Everything about it was just perfect - they are super dog friendly, the staff are so accommodating and the location is dreamy. We ate in the restaurant two nights running because it was so good and the breakfast was outstanding. I have never received such good value for money, and I’ll be recommending this place to everyone I know. The grounds are stunning and perfect for having a dog. Thank you for the most incredible stay!

We had a really nice stay at the Trout. We were travelling with our dog and the staff was very friendly and welcoming to us and the dog. The room was also dogproof and from the locations we made some nice hikes on the Thames path. The food was definitely the best part of the hotel, both breakfast and dinner were amazing. Would definitely recommend and go back.

Room spacious and comfortable. Staff, nothing was too much trouble, great customer service. Food was excellent, best fish and chips in a long time, as well a super lamb. Very good English breakfast. Good value. We would be happy to stay again. Thank you to all at The Eagle. We strongly recommend that if you are in the area that you book a table for dinner.

Our bedroom was clean and the bed and bedding was so comfortable ! Shower was powerful, and the room was well equipped with coffee making facilities. We needed an iron and a pen and a taxi number and this was brought up to our room promptly. House keeping staff were really friendly. Location is fine for staying in Faringdon.
