Melrose cottage, hotel in Goring

Offering a garden and quiet street view, Melrose cottage is located in Goring, 30 km from Newbury Racecourse and 32 km from University of Oxford.

Rose was very lovely and welcoming. Its like staying at Grandmas house! I had the downstairs ensuite room at the back. It was very quite. It had a fridge with milk, microwave and kettle. I didnt have any breakfast as I left before 7am but Rose offered to leave something out for me if I wanted like cereals, bread etc. She was there when I was leaving and insisted I at least took a banana :-)

The George Hotel Pangbourne, hotel in Goring

In picturesque Pangbourne, just metres from the scenic River Thames, The George Hotel features a traditional bar with Wi-Fi access. Reading centre is a 10-minute train ride away.

We booked this accommodation as we were walking part of The Thames path so we also needed dinner, sadly found out on arrival that the kitchen was closed on Mondays! A note stating this when booking would have been helpful. Rooms a little tired with dated furniture. The owners were very friendly the cooked breakfast was good but there was no fruit/etc cereal laid out.

The George Hotel, hotel in Goring

The George Hotel is a 16th-century coaching inn situated in the centre of the historic market town of Wallingford. With seasonal bistro dining, it is also 20 minutes’ drive from Oxford.

The breakfast was good. I like that you could order hot items from a meny. (with good quality) I missed fresh fruits, but other than that it was good! The staff was also very welcoming and helpful. I also thought it was very clean.

The Royal Oak, Yattendon, hotel in Goring

Set 17 km from Newbury Racecourse, The Royal Oak, Yattendon offers 4-star accommodation in Frilsham and features a garden, a terrace and a bar.

Fantastic value for money. Having had an evening meal, spent the night and had breakfast in the morning, I’m gobsmacked at how cost effective our stay was. The food, rooms, service certainly warrant a higher rate than which we paid. Very impressed.

Goring itself was disappointing, but it's a good base for surrounding attractions. Our main gripe was parking - the hotel had none and the small public car park 150M away was 7 day charging 8 to 6, so you'd have to go out early to feed the machine before breakfast. 1 hour free, then quite expensive. Only alternative was very limited street parking - in high demand by residents. Two other pubs were closed at lunchtime and not sure they were open evenings either.

A really attractive and friendly village.

A really attractive and friendly village. We had our labrador with us and there was a village green opposite and if she had not been lame we would have taken advantage of the wonderful wallks around the towpath. Easy crossing over the bridge to Streatley. Lots of interesting towns and villages around the area. Excellent parking facilities.

I had worked there when younger over 40 years ago. I had not returned during this time, thought I would like to visit old haunts eg "The Bull". The places were the same. I was not disappointed and thinking it is a place I could live in. The wildlife and Thames has a lot to offer. I ate and stayed at "The Miller" fabulous place full of history. Very easy to walk around the small village. Everyone happy to have a chat. I missed a local event.

Goring is a lovely village in all seasons.

Goring is a lovely village in all seasons. It sits on the Thames and has a spectacular weir. If you like to walk you'll love Goring, and it's heaven if you are into canoeing or paddle boarding. However, it's a small village that shuts down early, even on weekdays. Not many shopping options, and after 4 pm it's hard to find groceries. There are a couple of nice pubs on the Goring side of the river, and The Swan on the Streatley side, which I don't recommend.

It depends, what you like, it was pretty out in the sticks, but had a station, at least one (lovely) pub, it was quiet and close to the ridgeway and the thames path. Ideal for walkers, cyclists, runners, probably not much fun for town-lovers

After stumbling across Goring last September we fell in love right away. Such a peaceful and pretty village. We very much enjoying the Catherine Wheel pub, Miller of Mansfield and the Pierreponts cafe. I find it an typically quaint English village that meets all your needs. We also enjoyed a trip on the River Thames cruises which departed Goring on the Sunday and this just rounded up or trip perfectly.

Melrose Cottage was in a very quiet road in Goring, well-placed for the station, the village and the Ridgeway. The garden was superb with tables and chairs dotted around in little corners amongst the flowers and vegetables. We made ourselves a cup of tea when we arrived and sat in the garden watching the red kites overhead. The room was well equipped and spotlessly clean and Rose made us feel at home. Great breakfast choice.

We needed an overnight stay in Goring as we were attending a wedding in the area. Rose was very accomodating we were able to check in before the wedding. Our double room at the back of the house overlooking the garden was comfortable with a good ensuite shower room. Asked to make our choices the evening before and what time we would like breakfast it was freshly prepared and served with care. Thank you

This place is a real gem, it was stylishly quirky and I loved the individuality of it all 😊 our room was fabulous, the staff were very attentive, but the real highlight for me was the food….it was possibly the best food I’ve eaten in a hotel for the last few years and I wish we had been staying longer to sample more of the menu 😎

Location was about a 10 minutes walk from the centre of Goring. We were on foot as walking the Thames Path. Breakfast was amazing and set us up really well for the next days walk. Everything very clean. Rose lent us a torch to walk back into Goring for dinner and also dried our coats or her air drier.
