Room is stunning. Decor beautiful.
Bea, at reception was an absolute diamond to deal with, took the time to show me around and tell me everything I needed to know. I’ve already booked another 2 nights stay. Shower is lovely and big. Most comfortable bed I think I’ve ever slept in. Carpet in the room is luxurious and clean. Bottled water is supplied in the room. Towels are plentiful and very fresh. I 100% recommend staying at this hotel. I stay in the area often with work and usually stay in a large chain hotel… no longer. This is my new go-to. Hospitality done right!!

Our twin room was beautiful, and the bathroom excellent. I loved the setting in a sweet quiet road, near the seafront. The cocktail bar was good. Sitting outside in the sun was peaceful and pleasant.mStaff were very accommodating.

Royal Dockyard of the British Isles
An important harbour for centuries, Portsmouth counts with one of the busiest ferry piers in the United Kingdom, has the oldest dry dock still in use in the world. Its Historic Dockyard is home to famous British ships like Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and the HMS Warrior.
In the picturesque Old Town you’ll find typical English pubs, coloured houses, and small independent shops. It also has a Fish Market provided by the city’s small fishing fleet. The coastal area is nice to walk along. The Mary Rose & Victory Museum are very good.
Portsmouth city centre is dull, lacking greenery or planters, many shops are empty. It is not an attractive city centre!
There is a statue of Charles Dickens in the Guildsquare otherwise the area is grim.

The attraction was the harbour.
The attraction was the harbour. The ticket was expensive but well worth it. The Mary Rose Museum was phenomenally good - exciting, imaginitive and caught the attention of grandparents, parents and children alike. The Victory was almost equally good and the guides there were exceptional. We also visited the Warrior where the guide took over explaining to the children, told us an immense amount but also had us all in fits of laughter. Strongly recommended for all ages
We also very much enjoyed Portchester castle and the exhibition on the prison there (and the cafe in the church.

I come to Portsmouth regularly, a very clean city and friendly people, full of history especially naval, lots to do and see, lovely pubs and restaurants, Southsea is a must, good bus service plenty of good hotels, I'd recommend the Spice Island in old Portsmouth and the Ship Anson in The Hard Old Portsmouth is worth visiting
Location was great for us as it was a short walk from the bus and train station at The Hard, and convenient to our plan of walking about historic Portsmouth, from Southsea Castle to HM Naval Base. Excellent English breakfast was included, served in a comfortable and quaintly decorated (nautical memorabilia) room. Also has a great bar. And the staff were most courteous and helpful, allowing us to leave our bags following checkout, and calling a taxi to take us to the International Port Terminal at the end of the day.
The location was fantastic, only 5 minutes walk to the beach and even closer to the restaurants, plus only a 9-minute drive to Portsmouth Old Harbour. Despite that, the room was quiet and calming, and the bed is comfortable You could have a really good night's sleep. The owners understand what families need! There is a clean communal kitchen, so you could buy takeaway and dine in the sanctuary of the hotel, avoiding the crowds in the restaurants. The decor of the bedroom was pleasant, too.
The location couldn’t have been better as my brother was leaving on a year-round, round-the-world yacht race from there on Sept 3. The boats were there at the end of the wharf just about 1/4 mile away. And the hotel is at the end of a high scale mall with LOTS of restaurants, pubs, cafes.
Linsey at the front desk was amazing and super helpful, as was her young male night shift co-worker (Phil?). LOVED having the bar and food till 2:00 a.m. for those of us who are insomniacs!
Location in Old Portsmouth was superb - just a short walk to the Harbour entrance or to Gunwharf Quays.
Accommodation provides a free parking permit for the zone which is brilliant, and the roads are fairly quiet in this part of Portsmouth
Convenient Co-Op shop is very close by for drinks and snacks to take to your room
Great view of Spinnaker Tower from our room on 2nd floor
Staff very helpful in sorting out our couple of issues on arrival
This was a lovely hotel to stay in, was in a great location near bus and train stations, Portsmouth Harbour and Gunwharf Quays! The staff were lovely and friendly and even though we were early our room was already ready for us to use! There's a lift to all floors, and restaurant and bar in the hotel! We also enjoyed our breakfast both mornings! It's buffet but they do hot breakfast too, which was delicious to eat and hot!!
This is my third time at the Royal Maritime Club, however this time I stayed in the central wing. As usual, the rooms were clean and the hot tub was gave me a great relaxation after a hard sailing week.
In breakfast there is a large selection of traditional English dishes as well as serials and yogurt selection.
This time I also dined at the hotel restaurant which was ok though a bit pricy.
We had the second floor suite at the front of the building facing the port, I was concerned that with the amount of traffic, buses, trains, boats and people it would be noisy. However the sound proofing was fine, no issues. Everything was clean and the décor of the room and the hotel generally was of a high standard. The full breakfast on offer in the morning was excellent.
Went by train from my home town in South Wales one change at Cardiff Central and then straight to Portsmouth Harbour Station (4 hours travel plus 1 hour wait in Cardiff), so would have been unhappy with additional travel.
The Hotel is directly opposite the train /bus station, so exit cross the road at the main pedestrian crossing point and straight through the hotel door.
Fantastic location to explore Portsmouth Gunwharf Quays
All the staff were nice, friendly & professional
Had a free and secure car park
Hotel was clean, nicely decorated and had its own bar
There was a Coop just next door
Had a great stay and would happily stay again - Thankyou Keppels Head Hotel!
A nice hotel in a quiet location easily reached by local busses. It's a long way but you can walk it from Portsmouth Harbour. If so make sure you go via the magnificent Gunwharf Quays and coastline.
Steve was very helpful and welcoming.
A nice clean comfy bed. Good value for money.
Perfect location for our one night stay in Portsmouth. We walked home quickly after a day of shopping at Gunwharf quays and then took the catamaran to isle of wight the next day from Portsmouth Harbour. The apartment was large and comfy. We used the kitchen for dinner.
Excellent location for all amenities in Gunwharf Quays and the Naval base museums. Very friendly staff and a good breakfast. Parking was cheap through the hotel. First night free then £2 for the following 24 hours. We would definitely stay here again.
Very clean room, large and spotless bathroom, very friendly and helpful staff, free parking with easy access to the hotel. Good choice for breakfast. Ordering from the restaurant and getting it sent to the room was very quick and easy.
An excellent location, at Gunwharf Quays and near to Portsmouth Harbour station and the Historic Dockyard. A great welcome from Barry, a very comfortable and practical flat, and an amazing view from the ninth floor.
We were met by a delightful young lady who welcomed us and showed us around the hotel and was very accommodating with regard to allowing us our chips, we'd just bought from the chippy.
It felt like a home from home, great kitchen and very comfy beds. Wonderful views and good location for everything in Portsmouth & Southsea of significance.
