Ye Olde George Inn - Badger Pubs, hotel in Privett

Around 5 miles from Petersfield in the South Downs, Ye Olde George Inn offers stylish rooms alongside a traditional pub and restaurant.

We had a lovely time at Ye Olde George Inn. Staff were very helpful and accommodating as we needed to leave early the next morning. Had dinner the night we stayed and it was delicious. The village itself is very pretty, would have loved to have explored more. It was also in a very handy location close to the South Downs Way.

We stayed in the Wren room, which had the best bathtub I think I have every enjoyed. The inn keepers were extraordinarily friendly and made us feel right at home. The Nest is conveniently located a short distance from the South Downs Way.

The room smelt of smoke, as if it was ingrained into the fabric of the room. Old cobwebs behind the doors and furniture, mould around the bath. Comfortable bed and clean linen. Curtains made the room dark which I enjoyed. But, car park incredibly tight for safe parking during my stay. Contractors vehicles parked everywhere and had the engines running when no-one was in them. This lasted for about 1-2 hours from dawn and the same in the evening disturbing my sleep and others. From the very early hours(6am) commercial contractors vehicles being loaded with heavy objects literally right outside my room. The walls were paper thin meaning I could hear every sound no matter what the time. This wasn't very good considering I booked this hotel for a course I was attending and needed the rest and sleep which unfortunately I did not have. The breakfast was average and just about acceptable with no gluten free bread. The evening meal was expensive considering it was probably brought in and reheated. On a plus note the staff seemed pleasant and helpful. Overall, this hotel needs updating and lots of tlc.

The pub is actually in East Meon and not Privett which is just down the road, the village of East Meon is gorgeous, full of beautiful old houses, many thatched, all in a quiet valley surrounded by beautiful countryside, there's a beautiful old church, two pubs one of which also serves as a cafe and a small village shop. For more amenities the market town of Petersfield is only a short drive away

You should have a car because public transportation is not available on Sundays and Mondays. we had the idea to go with my daughter’s car, but my son in law changed the plan so we finally went using a taxi. The location is good to visit some attractions in the area. We had to take another taxi to visit Jane Austen’s house that is about 6 miles from there. The hotel crew was very friendly and help us all the time. We were very happy. We had breakfast and lunch and appreciate the service. The Sunday roast special was excellent and we could see many people came to enjoy it with a very good service. Our grand sons were very happy all the time.

Ease of parking, straightforward booking in, welcoming staff. Very clean room with good facilities - Everything worked. Our room was not overlooked by others, and the hotel site is surrounded by open countryside, so there was peace and quiet; and the restaurant below could not be heard. We had made other arrangements and so did not eat or drink in, but the menus looked good.
