We went at The wrong time as we had a yellow weather warning and it never stopped raining during our visit. The hotel needs upgrading and the staff need training around behaviour when guests are around. Domestic arguments in The early hours of the morning does not help guests rest. Please mind our visit as it has happened in The past and I would suggest continue in the future. Being young is not an excuse and being considerate towards your guests is.

A vibrant village with plenty of walks suited to all abilities and a beautiful village square. The Commercial was the icing on the cake. The food there is top rate with a varied menu (including vegan options). The bedrooms are very modern and beautifully decorated, and the staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. Can't recommend highly enough.

I arrived after my Navigation system led me to an almost unaccessible "road" somewhere in the hills beside an abandonned kind of farmhouse and it was a real test for for my tyres and the bottom section of my Volvo (managed it perfectly). The staff at The Commercial Hotel was more than friendly, we immediately got into a kidding conversation about the cliche picture of German and Scottisch people and they helped me with everything I needed, even they were quite busy because of a family party in the dining room and the bar full of heavy loud drinkers... I didn`t stay very long in Tarland and had dinner at The Commercial (delicious) and also full english breakfast (even more delicious). I loved the tiny central town place and the recommendation for the Golf Court of a guy just coming back from playing, though I did not manage to play there. Lovely people, nice and silent athmosphere, really worth a comeback some time. For me one of the top locations and experiences in my one week travel to Scotland.

A small village in a quiet area with plenty of walks.

A small village in a quiet area with plenty of walks. Nearby towns such as Aboyne a relatively short drive away but several miles on foot so a car is essential both to get there and to visit other nearby attractions. The Tarland Way is not a circular route so be aware a walk there and back is about 12 miles.

A pleasent little village, with some nice walks in the area.

A pleasent little village, with some nice walks in the area. Would like to be in the area when the Tarland Show is on. The Commercial Hotel and restaurant was very nice and we ate there twice on consecutive nights. They were very nice and the food was excellant. It has a reasonable convienence store and pharmacy too, and a Golf Club if the urge takes you.
