Ivy Todd is situated overlooking fields of green and the whole ambiance is calm and natural. The food provided was enough for lunch and breakfast. For dinner, we ventured to the Plough for perfect, tasty pizzas. We have visited Ivy Todd 3 times now, and have never been disappointed. The rooms are clean and spacious with quirky touches, such as the coffee cups and coasters 😊 Thank you to you both, once again, and thanks so much for the extra birthday treats for my husband. He appreciated them so much. Can’t wait for October when we return for our autumn getaway.

The accommodation is very comfortable and set in a quiet , peaceful village location. There is a patio area to the side of the annexe amidst beautiful gardens.
Diane is a wonderful host and you will want for nothing during your stay. The breakfasts she serves are superb and will set you up for the day.
Highly recommended. Y
We were not interested in Thaxted. The reason for our trip was ro visit Duxford IWM. We went to see the museum on the Friday and the Flying Finale on the Saturday.
From the booking.com information Thaxted appeared to be much closer to Duxford that the actuality. We only used the hoted for evening dinner, sleep and breakfast.

The food in the hotel was not good, my lunch had hair in it, there was food all over the floor that hadn’t been cleaned from breakfast, my breakfast was greasy & some of it was cold & we wait 35 minutes for it to arrive.
The staff were very friendly but the bar service was slow.
They wanted to charge me an extra £10 for our dog so I pointed out all the issues & they removed the charge

Thaxted is a wonderful place full of history and lovely people. Go to see Webbs mill, the Guildhall and of course the Parish Church ( which in the past has had and still has a social conscience - when Adam delved and Eve span, who was then the gentleman ? ). Walk around Thaxted and take in the timber framed buildings - you are looking at 14th and 15th Century and later history. Look at those Alms Houses and think of all those people that were able to live there, where otherwise they may not have had a home. You might even get a chance to see the Morris Men - and Women. Gustav Holst was Choir Master at the Church - he wrote the Planet Suite whilst in Thaxted !

Beautiful quaint medieval Town.
Beautiful quaint medieval Town. The Church is absolutely beautiful and the local residents so friendly! Utterly refreshing stay in such a happy Town.
There were lots going on locally during this Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend. The Lighting of the Beacon was spectacular! Highly recommend!
We ate at the Swan and Parishes both were very good and value for money! I would say ideally a car would be good but lovely walks all around!

Great location, pretty village.
Great location, pretty village.
Poor cleanliness in the room and bar areas. In need of an upgrade especially outside to the rear of the building. The bathroom was of a poor standard and had not been cleaned properly and the duty manager was called to view the state of the bathroom, the tea cups had not been washed properly, the glass top in the bathroom had previous guests toothpaste marks, the glass doors of the shower was covered in the previous guests shower gel, the plug in the shower had not been cleaned for some time, it was black, mouldy and had lots of hairs in it. Based on this experience I would not stay again in this property, or stay in other Greene King Hotels.

its a must to explore the village, the beautiful church, Audley end house well worth a visit, and a trip into saffron waldon and also you have john webbs mill and the quaint old almshouses, the whole place steeped in history.
Stoney Lane is perfect for a short break as a couple. It’s a delightful tiny cottage full of beams and wonky floors, just a few steps from the centre of medieval Thaxted. There is lots to do in the area, and it’s location means that popping out in the locality is very straightforward. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. Communication from the owner was excellent.
Stony Lane is a beautiful old house in the heart of Thaxted. The lane itself is a quiet, traffic-free backwater so it is a perfect place to stay for a visit to Thaxted, or in our case for a wedding in the church, which is at the end of the lane. The house is well equiped, clean, and very comfortable with plenty of space for a short stay.
The cottage is incredibly charming, and has everything you could need for a stay in Thaxted. The bed is large and comfortable, the kitchenette surprisingly spacious and well appointed and the lounge area very comfortable. The location, right opposite the church, is the perfect place to stay.
In a beautiful, historic setting, this period property is charming , full of character yet has lots of home comforts. Thaxted is a perfect base for a holiday, so pretty and lots of lovely places to visit and some fantastic pubs and restaurants all within walking distance.
Convenient for early start in Thaxted next day. Good on site parking. Easy access to accommodation (just a few steps) and onsite pub. Comfortable bed. Excellent tray breakfast delivered to outside room at time we requested. Friendly helpful staff. Responsive to messages.
Friendly attentive staff and breakfast was adapted to personal choices - Thank You! Excellent location for Thaxted and Saffron Walden and very peaceful surroundings.
