The food in Medan is superb, although some rumah makan did not really practice hygiene. Generally, it was easy to find non-halal and halal restaurants. Jong Ah Fie Mansion is awesome. Im impressed that a lot of the things there are well preserved. Istana Maimoon is okay for buying handcrafts. The Graha Bunda Maria Annai Velangkanni church is very unique too. However, I must admit that Lake Toba is the main highlight of my visit there. The lake is super beautiful and I really enjoy my stay and time at Lake Toba - Samosir, Karo, Berastagi etc...will definitely recommend travellers who enjoy immersing themselves in peaceful nature to visit Lake Toba. :) Seriously, the sunrise and sunset are mind blowing.

Medan, indeed all of Sumatra is much cleaner than Java. A lot more pride taken civically. Most folk uses Medan as their entry point to Toba. I just wished I'd spent more time in Medan first. Lovely place.

Medan is a great arrival and exit city for access to Sumatra
Medan is a great arrival and exit city for access to Sumatra
There is a good number of attractions for a day tour of the city of Medan itself and I would recommend this.
Aside from this is it best to stay in the places you are visiting.
Unlike what the internet may suggest you definitely cannot do a day tour to Lake Toba from Medan in one day unless you want to spend anywhere from 10 to 17 hours in a car. I do not recommend... at all.
A sunrise hike of Mount Sibayak from Medan is doable but will be very tiring and I would recommend staying in Berastagi instead.

Medan is a humid place. There are little trees in the city. Food is plentiful and tasty. However, due to drainage problem, it has lots of mosquitoes flying around. One can easily be bitten by them. So, always carry a bottle of insect spray.

I was only there overnight, arriving early evening by air and travelling on the next day. My hotel was perfectly located for airport train access. The city is huge and sprawling, can't really judge based on such a limited stay. I did have a very bad experience at the Pinang Baris bus station the day I was leaving. No one else around, just a group of very unfriendly men, waiting to overcharge you. I knew my trip to Bukit Lamang should be around 30,000...they quoted me 150,000, we settled on 100,000. I just wanted to get where I was going but they were very unpleasant. A lot of money was changing hands as I got in the battered old van...they think they've really pulled something over on you. It just confirmed in my mind that I won't be back in Medan or if I am...I will use any mode of transport but them. Crooks.
My son and I love almost everything in this hotel. We really enjoyed our stay. The friendly and courteous staffs made our stay so memorable. Thanks to Pak Rio, Pak Hotlan and Pak Ari. Breakfast buffet was wonderful. We would definitely return to this hotel when we visit the country in the future. The only suggestion we would make is to clearly assign the smoking and non-smoking area during breakfast time/cafe.
The best thing of the guest house is the host Zack
He is very helpful and kind
We left very soon the place to go to airport and we did not realize that the payment was on site
I tried to pay him but he just did not accept!
Thank you Zack!!!
The place is 20 minutes far-away to airport and it’s perfect to do a night there
close to it you can found local restaurants, supermarkets and all type of shops
The building and garden are stunning. The swimming pool is clean and in a very private location with comfortable chairs. The room was clean and well equipped. The food on the whole was very nice. They do serve fantastic coffee! We also really enjoyed our breakfast with some good choices. The location is quiet but far from the city centre which didn't bother us.
Our family really enjoyed our stay here-its a beautiful hotel that's well maintained. Everything was perfect and the staff are really lovely and so helpful. The buffet breakfasts were amazing with lots of choices and a different cooked menu every morning. Its right in the centre of Medan and within easy walking distance to the Mosque and other sights.
We stayed 2 x one night with our family of four during our holiday through Sumatra and had a very good stay. Large clean appartement, friendly staff, good Indonesian breakfast, second time when we had to leave early they offered a take away breakfast. Also handy is the CIMB bank opposite of the hotel.
Grand Inna Medan is in an excellent location for access to Medan, has spacious rooms and is fairly clean. The pool is very pleasant. The old colonial bit of the building is quite pretty
If you need laundry doing, Rakyat laundry is much cheaper than the hotel and is just around the corner.
Cozy, but small room, love the roof terrace. Staff was friendly and tried to help (English isn’t that good, but worked with hands and feet).
Would only recommend a short stay, Medan isn’t a nice city so spend time in.
There’s a Mall 10 min walk, where you can have food and shopping.
It is true that it's not the cleanest hotel, but the staff was very nice and helpful. The room had air conditioning, which was a blessing as Medan has a lot of humidity. It is walking distance to Medan fair plaza where the mini buses from the airport have the last stop.
.
The hotel was so busy during my stay. The staff was very good .
Staff Nurul was so helpful during check in and so efficient.
Me and my friends enjoy the stay at Radisson , even my first choice before was Adimulia Hotel. Staff Nurul suggest me and friends to come back.
It's apparently the best hotel in Medan, in which case all the other properties must be pretty 'meh'. The doormen/security/bellboys are friendly and professional and it all goes downhill after that. Very underwhelming place to stay.
- Great location!
- Staff were friendly and easy to approach, Especially the ladies who work at the registration area.
- Hotel provided some information of which places to visit in Medan.
A very big, clean and cold for the executive room, nice breakfast, very good location, near from center of the city, very good value in medan city center.. overall satisfied.
