Everything about the place is lovely.
Well situated. Only 10-15mins drive to Keem or Minaun Heights, overlooking the Keel Beach, and walking distance to the deserted village loop.
The sitting hall gives a nice resting space with panoramic view through the large window.
Kitchen is well equipped (exceeded our expectations).
Bedroom is spacious. Bed is so comfortable- very much appreciated after a long day of hiking and lots of walking.
The hosts (Jack and Fiona), are very welcoming. They ensured our stay was perfect and comfortable. 🥰 everything in the place was well thought.
A historic Victorian house with a self-catering kitchen, a guest sitting room and a courtyard, The Valley House Hostel & Bar also offers free WiFi and free on-site parking.

Great spot near the beach. Liked there were PowerPoints in every bed space and shower was hot and had pressure. Pub attached to property has Trad night on a Thursday!

A large enough island to keep you occupied for a whole weekend even out of season. A fascinating history that is easily accessible to visitors. Amazing landscapes. A wonderful background energy from being at the edge of a continent. A perfect spot to observe the end of the World!

the stunning beauty of the Island is the reason to go.
the stunning beauty of the Island is the reason to go. Plus the best oysters in all of Ireland (go to Dublin's finest restaurants and Achill Island Oysters are on offer). Like the quietude of Achill Island, not full of tourists like many places along the West Coast which have transformed into Coney Island tourist traps. Achill remains truly original and raw.

Absolutely stunning part of the west coast.
Absolutely stunning part of the west coast. I'm loathed to say how good it was because part of the charm was the remoteness. White sandy beaches, torquoise water and plenty of hikes to do - really get back to nature in a place like that.

Noting we stayed on Achill Island, so this review is for there:
We arrived quite late & were lucky to catch some sights, ie: sunset over the white cliffs and Grace O’Malley’s tower however we were too late to explore Keen, have dinner or experience some more sights.
I would definitely go back to check that out as it seemed there was quite a lot on offer, some that we only learnt about after we’d left!

We love Achill, so many amazing beaches, coffee shops and bars, we also drove a short distance to Westport for the day.
The villages of Keel and Dooagh are great for walking, a few hours on the beach and then having something to eat at either Gieltys or the Beehive.
A must is a drive up to Keem Bay, a beautiful setting and from the mountain top you can see the basking sharks in the water.
The shop at Dooagh was great, just a short walk down the brae from our accommodation, head on a bit to Lourdies bar for real craic.
