Guesthouse Steindórsstadir, West Iceland, hotel in Reykholt

Dating back to 1828, this family-run farm in West Iceland offers bright rooms with country-style décor. Facilities include a guest kitchen, TV lounge and terrace with outdoor hot tub.

The guest house was clean and well managed. Our hosts were friendly and the location was exceptionally beautiful. We enjoyed walking around the farm, seeing the sheep, Icelandic horses and sheep dogs. Using the common kitchen was a way to interact with the other guests and find out what was good to see in the area.

There are 2 Reyhkolts in Iceland and this is the more...

There are 2 Reyhkolts in Iceland and this is the more westerly one (the other is on the Golden Circle to the south). We visited Vidgelmir, the lava tube, and it was fabulous! It's cold inside so dress warmly. The guides were all geologists who specialize in this kind of formation and were knowledgeable about both geology and the history of the tube. Krauma geothermal baths and restaurant: the baths were expensive and we didn't go but the restaurant served great food (also expensive as is all food in Iceland).

The staff at this hotel were AMAZING. It truly felt like you were being greeted by family! I was one of (if not the only) guest to stay during my visit and they still put out a breakfast buffet! the gift shop full of family made items is a must see. I bought candle holders made by one of the owner’s sister and they made the perfect gift. I felt so welcome, safe and at home staying here. I cannot recommend enough!

Location was great, and cabin very functional and comfortable. Jacuzzi was very easy to use and worked very well, as well as everything in the cabin (kitchen, hot water, etc.). Amazing location for a quiet, resourceful stay, which was exactly what we were looking for. You need to rent a car if you're going to stay there, but if you do, it's a great place to stay and explore the western part of Iceland.

The staff were helpful and really nice. The dinner is a must, tried both the Lamb and the Beef and both were delicious. We were a party of 4 and we all agreed that the Lamb is a masterpiece and the best dish we had in Iceland in the last two weeks we are here

The fact that they served dinner. The weather was awful; the hotel is not close to anything. So being able to have dinner at the hotel was great. And the food was good.
