Barrea is a beautiful town with a gorgeous historic centre...
Barrea is a beautiful town with a gorgeous historic centre and magnificent views looking over Lake Barrea. There are good walking and hiking tracks around the area as Barrea is situated in the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise. The local bus goes regularly to nearby villages (Villetta Barrea, Civitella Alfedena, Opi, Pescasserolli) - all lovely medieval villages with cobblestone streets and beautiful views. Highlights in town of Barrea - the castle with magnificent views of the lake, on the way to the castle there is also Sala Pipistrelli (room of the bats) where you can see a live cam of a bat colony. If you go during the summer, you can also do the Bat Night where you can see the bats leaving the colony at night. The museum is also very interesting and just wandering around the historic centre is a treat (particularly 'belvedere il colle'- a viewpoint with lovely piazza)

A beautiful, relaxing, clean kept and easy going cozy little...
A beautiful, relaxing, clean kept and easy going cozy little town. A perfect starting point for hiking tours through the Abruzzo national park. Food is excellent and you are guaranteed to get excellent value for little money.

Beautiful location. Nice lake for swimming in summer. It is high up so nice and cool to get away from too much summer heat. We found that the restaurants provide too much heavy food during the summer. Very few salads and fruit and too much pasta and meat. It is a good place for seeing animals with deer wolves and foxes which is all very interesting.LuigiItaly
