Super close to the train station. Literally next to the exit with just 1 min walk. It’s also a close walking distance to the pier to hop on the boat to other islands.
The place is very nice, cozy and modern. Well cleaned. Sofa bed is very comfortable and big unlike other places. There’s snack (biscuits, macaron), tea and water to welcome us. There’s a microwave in the kitchen with all the kitchenware. Bathroom is well equipped with amenities. Water pressure is strong. The owner is also super nice and helpful. He stood in front of the place to make sure we find the place. When we msg him to ask something at night, he offered to come by to help and we’re very glad.

Varenna provides a great home base for seeing Bellagio, Tremezzo, Villa Carlotta, Menaggio, and Lenno, as it has both a train and ferry station. The only downside is that it is not convenient to Como, but it is possible to travel even there. The town itself is lovely, with a beautiful walkway along the shore and a cute town center with nearby gardens and villas to visit. If you like hiking, the remains of a castle tower above the town. There is a good little convenience store, and the botanical gardens and villa nearby are lovely. Tremezzo in particular, with its gorgeous villa Carlotta, is nearby, and if you are up to it, there is a trail called the Greenway that takes you from Tremezzo to Lenno. While parts of the walk are steep, the trail is well-marked, with signs and even metal markers embedded into the pavement (where it exists).JohnUnited States - 8.0Scored 8.0

We knew we were going off season (the hotel has only opened the week we visited in the 2nd week of March) Varenna is a pretty village with breathtakingly beautiful views. But off season there was nowhere open to get a drink or food after 9pm!

Easy walk about town.
Easy walk about town. Wear good walking shoes steps are steep and not always a handrail. Beautiful gardens and scenery. Easy hop on a ferry to go to the other towns. Hike up to the castle is 30 min. I would have felt more comfortable with a walking stick. Make sure to have water.

Picturesque and just charming. Loved the waterfront, walking on the bridge, flowers, vibe and restaurants on the water. Ferry efficient and pleasant, easy to access other towns. Loved Varenna. So beautiful, straight out of a movie scene. Do a wine tasting, there are many options there. There is a lot of uneven cobblestones and a million stone stairs. Have sturdy shoes with grip. You walk everywhere. I wouldn’t recommend for someone who is unsteady, walks with a cane, has bad knees. I saw people with baby strollers, but I wouldn’t recommend it, seemed awful with all of the stairs. Not a kid friendly location. Food was fantastic…eat all the bread, it’s not like in the US. Take a cooking class. Take the ferry to Bellano and visit Orrido di Bellano. Next time, I would not bother with Bellagio visit. I would’ve liked the boat ride on the lake and botanical gardens…next time.AAnonymous

Just a 15 minute walk to Varenna restaurants and ferry. Great location!! Francesca was extremely helpful and picked us up from the train station. She gave us great recommendations and suggestions during our stay. It was our first visit to the area so her guidance was very much appreciated!! He asked his friend Lorenza to meet us at the parking lot and walked us down a minute to this complete & beautiful apartment. Lorenza gave us a thorough introduction to the apartment and Varenna. It has clothes washer, dishwasher, microwave, stove. Location is 1 minute from train station and parking, 5 minutes to lake and boats. Easy travel by boat to Bellagio and Menaggio. Home away from home! Proseco a welcome touch! Thank you Ottilio and Lorenza for a beautiful stay in Varenna!

We stayed in the annex of Hotel Olivedo which is only a short walk from the main building and close to the station or ferry. It was very easy to find, staff were lovely and very welcoming, there was a good selection for breakfast with the breakfast “room” being out of the front of the hotel with a lake view. Our room was clean and spacious with a big modern bathroom and a terrace out the front overlooking the lake.
