I stayed here primarily because it is around a 10 minute walk to the Ferry to Sakurajima and the price was around 45$ per night. That was enough for me to be happy. The rooms are pretty comfortable and you can even get sign into YouTube on the room tv and watch it on the big screen. The rooms are plenty big and the bed is King size so you can roll around and there is still plenty room to walk.
Offering in-room flat-screen cable TVs and free wireless internet, クインテッサホテル鹿児島天文館 Relax & Sleep is just a minute’s walk from the Tenmonkan-dori Streetcar Line.

The stores and restaurants in the train station were good.
The stores and restaurants in the train station were good. There is the famous Kiriko cut glass factory and gift shop, Senganen Gardens and an excellent restaurant with a view of the volcano, Yamakataya department store, and the people in Kagoshima are very helpful and friendly. Every time I go to Japan I go to Kagoshima now. It also has hot springs. It is easy to catch the bus and tram cars that come often to get around.

We liked the nearby shops, the closeness to ferry and trainstation with Shinkansen accessibility. We found a lot of different style restaurants nearby.
In our experience was 1 Queen-bed too small for 2 european people.
The free space allowed us to only open 1 suitcase at a time.

Fascinating, lively city, interesting surroundings, very approachable people. Good food, too. Public transport is well-organised and affordable, and easy to navigate. Sakurajima's brooding, smoke-spewing presence provides the city with a unique atmosphere. I recommend the Kagoshima Brands store for souvenirs and omiyage (9-1 Meizanchō, Kagoshima). And don't miss Sengenan on any account!

Kagoshima is a city with a large volcano in its back yard.
Kagoshima is a city with a large volcano in its back yard. It make for a different kind of vibe. It is also a port city with many ferries, mostly going south to the little island atchepelago that ends in Okinawa. Warmer weather than most of Japan but still pretty chill in January. Nice people, I found them friendly. I like the place.

Sakurajima ,Senganen, Siroyama, Tenmonkan, and so on. Famous sight seeing spots, I recommend you. And local foods, such as satsumaage, black pig, karukanmanjyu, kibinago, you had better try them.

The rural areas of southern Kagoshima are very different from the rest of Japan, with not so huge mountains and very spacious land. It gives a very nice and different vibe seeing all those flat farmlands spread along the see, with a backdrop of volcanoes and hot springs. There are also some good hiking spots. Especially, Yakushima is a paradise for hikers with its deep, pristine and quite untouched forests and streams.
Clean modern hotel with modern bathroom and showers.
Parking for cars at reasonable rate (1000 yen per night) with free in and out privileges.
Free coffee, tea, hot chocolate in the vending machine in the lobby. Location was pretty good, in the middle of the shopping business district and around a 15 minute walk to the train station.
Adequate workout facility and coin laundry facility.
Very helpful staff.
Outstanding unobstructed view of Mount Sakurajima from the 10th floor breakfast room!
Such a convenient location, literally 3 mins walk with bags from JR station, and mostly under cover in case of rain. Also lots of food and shopping choices right nearby, and super close to tourist info and bus station.
Fantastic breakfast - great buffet with a wide range of Japanese and Western foods to choose from.
Staff very attentive.
Hotel very clean and quite spacious by Japanese standards.
Very comfortable place to stay. The bed is the best we've had so far in Japan (albeit the pillows are too hard and thick). The apartment is spacious, clean and has all the amenities anyone needs for a short stay. The location is superb, just a stone throw away from Kagoshima JR station, and there are plenty of car rental services nearby. Will definitely stay here again if we come back to Kagoshima.
(Edited as I accidentally wrote about the wrong hotel!)
Hotel is very chic and modern, in a really handy shopping area around 1.5km from the central Kagoshima JR station. Tram stop and airport bus stop are 2min walk.
Room is comfortable, with modern shower (no bath). Nice quality toiletries supplied.
The massage chair was a nice extra!
Hotel is centrally located but not noisy and quiet at night. Room was well equipped and well insulated. It kept a comfortable temperature even with heating disabled. Bedding, towels, etc were of high standard. Everything was clean, staff was friendly. They have a public bath on the top floor which does NOT enforce anti tattoo rules.
Location location location - tenmonkan is next door, the airport shuttle bus is 20 metres away, the tram line is also so close by.. the car park is right next to the hotel
We took a connecting room so was super comfortable.
Coin laundry is on the same floor as reception. Got the toughest of stained clothes cleaned in 2 hours !!
Large hot spring (onsen) and facilities were great. The outdoor hot spring boasts a view of the Volcano Sakurajima. Breakfast buffet was amazing with their huge selection of choices. It is an old, famous hotel in Kagoshima and it has history. Everywhere including our rooms were spotlessly clean. It also has a convenience store.
Compared to Sheratons I've stayed in in other countries, this one is especially luxurious, with a large room and a big comfortable bed. The hotel onsen is very pleasant with an outside section (though no view because it faces a main road). There is a choice of restaurants - I ate at Satsumagma which was outstandingly good.
It’s my favorite hotel in Japan. It’s comfortable, has all amenities and is very modern and stylish. My favorites are the rain shower, comfortable bed and massage chair.
The staff are extremely helpful and accommodating. The location is perfect. It’s located close to the shopping streets and the bus station in Tenmonkan.
The hotel has very big rooms with all needed amenities you will need (bathroom and toilet are separated). The location is great, just a short walk from Kagoshima-chuo station and the arcades in the city center. I had a very good stay here and would stay in the FAV hotel again when coming back to Kagoshima.
Perfect location in the heart of Kagoshima city. The hotel was modern looking, extremely clean and amazing value for money. The perfect hotel for someone looking for a place to stay the night when having a night out in Kagoshima city. Lots of bars, restaurants, shops and parks all around the hotel
Big room with a TV, really nice shower and bathroom space. It’s right in the main centre of Kagoshima and near the tram lines so it’s very convenient. The ferry port is also a short walk away. The price is reasonable but more expensive than other Grand Base hotels I’ve used.
Beautiful location at the top of Shiroyama Mountain. Free shuttle to town available, but also walking paths and stairs. Onsen hotel with large, luxurious spa. Restaurants, shops,Bakery on site.
The location is excellent, being in a covered street right by Kagoshima Station. The beds were comfortable. There's also a coin laundry machine in the hotel, which was very practical.
Good hotel with great volcano views. Helpful staff who arranged luggage shipping for us. Great location by the station with lots of restaurants near by.
