Xalapa is nice Mexican town. Due to Dia des Muertos everything was decorated with skeletons and sculls and it looked great. Nice time to visit - the end of October. For our ornithological interest - close to town there is a lake for birdwatching.

Xalapa is an amazing place anyone should visit, it has parks, museums, theaters, cinemas, art exhibits, both tratitional and international cuisine. It is famous for its outdoors cafés in the city centre, the Dique Lakes, concerts, plays and spectacles of all sorts.
Its architechture combines the colonial buildings with the modern highrise ones; the narrow alleys and the wide streets the international cuisine restaurants with the Mexican and traditional street-stands. Most important, the Xalapeño people's kind and warm treatment will make ou feel at home and welcome at your first contact.

I stayed for 3 nights. I arrived late Christmas Eve.
On Christmas day, I walked around the city, because everything is closed. The city is very nice: the paseo del largo for walking, the parque Juarez for excellent view of Pico de Orizaba and Cofre Pelote.
On 12/26, I visited museum of anthropology: highly recommend it. I also went to see the waterfall near Xico and the town of Coatepec.

I really love Xalapa.
I really love Xalapa. So many parks, the Cloud forests, and nearby Coatepec. I like the people, the climate, the steep hills and hidden stairways, the little tiendas, the side trips, and the wonderful museums. After Covid restrictions are lifted.. there will be international film festivals, concerts, other rare activities. The people are not sick of visitors. They are kind. Taxis are inexpensive and friendly and safe. I moved here from Merida. It is much more healthy here.

Xalapa could be considered the Athens or San Francisco of Mexico, with 20+ universities and a high percentage of the population is highly educated and supports a diverse arts scene, including plenty of excellent live music. The Anthropology Museum ranks among the best in the Americas.
The city is quite hilly and streets and narrow sidewalks are relatively rough cobblestones, so bring comfortable walking shoes. Taxis are relatively inexpensive and there is lots to see/do despite Xalapa being off most travelers' radar. You need to do your research and plan your trip accordingly. Xalapa offers a cool climate throughout most of the year, and is quite green with many parks due to higher rainfall that most other large Mexican cities.

Interesting small city.
Interesting small city. I was here for a disability arts festival and loved it. This is not a disability friendly city however as the streets are narrow, the sidewalks are crumbling. The museum of anthropology was a highlight. A must visit. The restaurants are inexpensive and the food is great all over town. If you want authenticity, and a city that is not touristic, you might like Xalapa.
Superb accomodation in a very comfortable and lovely hotel with a colonial style. Rooms and facilities are clean and staff is kind and available for queries. We booked a suite with breakfast included and it was a very complete meal. Absolutely recommended for a value-for-money accomodation with a great location right at the city centre. Much warmer than staying in a hotel! We also loved the sustainable practice of offering water at the lobby and corridors, instead of putting water bottles in every room/suite as most hotels do.
This is my favorite type of hotel in MX; a renovated old hacienda where there's a secure entrance with an open courtyard inside. The inside is laid out so that it winds around the garden with little bridges and walkways, and patios tucked in and around the courtyard. There were always staff available to help out. The restaurant is lovely and the breakfast we had there was one of the best I've had in Mexico. The layout of our room was great and the shower was hot. We really enjoyed our stay.
This hotel is a gem! First class especially in my King room. Maybe 5 stars! Staff is great, but very little English. My Spanish is poor, but no problems. The hotel is an easy walk to the central area. Everything else is straight up. If you have trouble walking up, take a taxi. Friendly people everywhere. Walking down easier.
Very clean, airy, quiet and an incredible bargain!
The location is perfect if you plan to visit downtown. The menu for breakfast in the restaurant is separated, I think could be nice to have it included but is ok, not to expensive and taste good, the best part is the coffee. The area is really quiet at night and you can sleep really good and then have a slow morning very relaxing.
Parking included (thought a bit tight to get in/out of), large king bed, AC, and good shower in the room. The restaurant desserts were phenomenal, especially their Lemon mousse/cake. Staff were all very nice and helpful.
I’ll use again if I’m going to Xalapa as well. Issues were solved when I asked. Centric hotel and friendly staff, I asked to be far from the noise of the street. They accommodated me in good place. Good price as well.
It is a good hotel with free parking close to the city centre (10 minutes by walk). There are several nice restaurants and cafes around. Nice view onto the city through full wall window. The breakfast was excellent.
The hotel is very good located, historical centre is in the food distance, nice hotel in the colonial style, very nice personel. The breakfest in the restaurant was tasty. There is wifi and undergound parking.
Excellent stay, great bed, cotton sheets, very friendly staff and very good breakfast with hand-made tortillas. They also have water freely available to refill. And really nice hot shower.
