The service at the restaurant was awful. Ordered a mango margarita and it came in a wine glass about half full, and that was with ice! Definitely skimped on the tequila too. Not sure it was in there. They had one guy at dinner who couldn’t keep up with the work…and we were the only ones there! the door to our room was loose. the patio door looking out to the water was filthy. The shower didn’t have a door snd water went everywhere…even under the wall to the next room. No elevator. Only a top sheet tucked in and a sheet to crawl under. Not a great stay for the cost.

If you want a secluded place but relatively close to the main restaurants and activities, then location is great. 5-7min bike ride or 15-20min from city center.
The facility is also clean. My room (#19) was at the top floor and in front of the beach (great views); however, not all rooms are like that. There are many rooms at the back of the hotel.
There is an okay restaurant in the hotel; not the best food in town. Had dinner there more out of convenience, not because the food or service were great.

Cleanliness and decor of rooms. Everything was included: breakfast, water, bananas anytime. Pool was a vibe. Breakfast was above and beyond. In room coffee 10/10. Bathroom toiletries were great. Rooftop was great. Every room had Semi private patio space. Staff super kind and helpful. Love that it is family owned/operated. Cute and lovely animals.

The manager who greeted us was friendly, professional, and helpful. He loves his job. He is doing his best to promote Inkanto into a true luxury experience. In the room, the decor is subtly artful and the shower is great.

Aquastar was well located right on the Malecon. Easy walking distance to lots of restaurants. Yes, it was right on the beach; but, not an area nice enough to get into the water. Too much seaweed. You had to walk to a nice beach,

Nice fishermen's village with good restaurants.
Nice fishermen's village with good restaurants. Very rustic in terms of hotels and restaurants.
The beach is clean and nice, clean water. However, it does suffer from the same problem of all beaches from Cancun up to here: lots of seawater. So cleaneless will depend how often they clean the seaweed.
Overall is a place to go once; no need to return, but glad I went.
Food cost can be expensive for what they are.

Sleepy boring town with nothing to do but relax and enjoy...
Sleepy boring town with nothing to do but relax and enjoy the sea. There are a bunch of snorkeling and diving locations if you're into that.
An excellent place to slow down and forget about the world.
A few quirks:
The nearby waterpark was closed because there was no cruise ship.
Same for the dolphin park, and by extension the entire touristy cruise port, is off-limits for 'regular' tourism according to the guard at the entrance there. So you can't get your fridge magnets and tshirts from there...
Half of the town is closed when there are no cruise ships. As if regular tourism doesn't matter or is not worth working for.
The difference with restaurants, shops and tours being offered was night and day when a cruise boat docked on Sunday.
Good stuff:
A laidback atmoshphere thorughout town. Not much annoying sales people. Some decent restaurants that have a good price/quality balance.
Other than the relaxed and fun strip of mahahual there isn't much to do. Which is great if you just want to relax and enjoy some food or drinks like we did.
And for that, our trip was too short (3 nights) but with the average hotel we had and few restaurant options that were open and not overpriced, 3 nights was just right I suppose.
The ride to Mahahual is an easy one, about 60KM from the main road, and that's the time where the world literally disappears in the background as you enter and enjoy the slow pace of Mahahual.

The best part of Mahahual other than the beaches is taking a trip with "Amigos del Mar Mahahual" to the atolon "Banco del Chinchorro", to Snorkel and or scuba dive. The company is very professional and have great equipment. The place is the biggest coral reef in the caribean has a lot of history and it is amazing. It was my first time snorkeling and I am oficially a fan and i will gladly go back there!!!
The town is very calm and friendly. There are days when cruise ships arrive and it becomes noisy but entertaining. Great choice of restaurants with a surprising offer of great cuisine for diner. Yaya, Malecon 21, or the restaurant at the 40 canones Hotel

More could be done to improve Mahahual, I visited Mahahual about 15 years ago and it was quiet, peaceful and clean. I was quite disappointed in how run down it had become; it was idyllic and not crazy like Playa Del Carmen and Cancun so I wanted my husband to experience lovely beaches etc, but this wasn't meant to be.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting a truly spectacular beach that left me in awe. The beach was situated near a beautiful coral reef, and the water was crystal clear and calm, making it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The soft, white sand was incredibly inviting, and I spent many hours lounging on the beach and soaking up the sun.
One of the things that really stood out to me about this beach was how peaceful and serene it was. Unlike some of the more crowded beaches I've visited, this one felt like a true paradise, with plenty of space to relax and unwind. The lack of waves also made it perfect for families with young children or anyone who wants to enjoy the water without worrying about getting tossed around.
Another thing that impressed me was the sheer natural beauty of the area. The coral reef was home to an incredible array of marine life, including colorful fish and sea turtles, which made for an unforgettable snorkeling experience. And with the stunning scenery all around, it was easy to forget about the outside world and just enjoy the moment.
Overall, I would highly recommend this beach to anyone looking for a peaceful and picturesque getaway. It truly is a slice of paradise that I will never forget.
The cabana was right on beach front 2 min walk from ocean beautiful plus the little private beach which every hotel has would return again location was about 10 min walk from the little shops and venders Tony's pizza was nearest food place but again the woman was unhelpful and quite rude beaware but lots of eating places further down the beach road
the hotel is right on the Main Street, you just have to cross it to get to the hotel’s space in the beach where you can chill with no minimum charge of food and drinks that the other places have but they will serve you there as well. The rooms are very comfortable and the staff is nice. The rooftop has a small pool with an amazing view of the ocean.
The location is beautiful and quieter than most hotels in the area since it is located down from the main area of the central walkway that runs through the seaside town. You can snorkel and see a lot of fish at the beach right in front of the hotel and a little further out is a large reef. Each room has a balcony and the rooms are spacious.
We stayed in the King suite with sea view and the view was an absolute dream. The terrace is amazing, the bed is comfy. The location of the hotel in front of the beach is great. Overall I loved our stay, but I have to say that we got a big discount for being off season. I think the full price would have been very overpriced.
Loveliest Hotel in Mahahual! The staff were among the friendliest and most helpful of our entire trip to Mexico. We also loved the focus on sustainability and lack of single use plastic. Beautiful pool. The beach is about 10 mins away with bikes that you can Rent right at the Hotel (for a fee). Taxis cost around 25 pesos.
Suzette was the nicest and most competent host, she helped us organize everything from snorkeling to cab and bus. The location is perfect, quiet and right and the beach but still only a few walking minutes from the town center. The hotel’s shared areas are very nice, the room and bathroom were good.
Great location, right on the beach, alongside a fairly quiet track/road. A fair walk into Mahahual. Lovely room with sun terrace above the room. Great food from the Hotel's kitchen and inclusive breakfast excellent. Friendly helpful staff. Would have stayed longer but fully booked.
The best part was the private beach which was right at our doorstep. There's a beautiful reef near the dock in front of the hotel. I brought my own snorkel mask & fins and I saw eagle rays, porcupine fish, sting rays, squids, and lots of corals without having to take a tour.
I like being in the middle of nowhere. Beautiful localization at the nice beach, nice restaurant and far away from crowds. Very unique design of the rooms. You need to have a car/taxi to get there and get out of as well ( for example: to Mahahual).
Lovely location, towards the quieter corner of Mahahual, away from where the cruise ships come in.
Lovely food, friendly and accommodating staff, the little beach was great with small coral 🪸 reefs just outside, take a snorkel and venture out!
Direct access to the beach. Excellent service and super nice staff!
Mahahual is able to control sargassum effectively and the Hotel beach is just wonderful!!!
