The setting here was so delightful that we hesitated to leave to do anything else but enjoy the scenery, the vibe, the fresh food grown on site, and the ocean breeze Great music playing at the restaurant all day too! The staff was super helpful on all levels.

Ananda Guesthouse, hotel in Balgue

Ananda Guest house specializes in sustainable luxury and is located on the slopes of the Maderas Volcano on Ometepe Island, 19 mi from the port of Moyogalpa.

Beautiful location. Walking distance to main road with some nice restaurants within 30 mins. Information booklet in the room was helpful. Help to rent mopeds, organise transport, guides etc. The room was spacious, bed was really comfortable, hardly any creepy crawlies (this is a complaint from many of the eco lodges). Good wifi. 2 fans which was nice. Good shower pressure and temperature.

Finca Magdalena Eco Lodge, hotel in Balgue

With Maderas Volcano reachable in 8.2 miles, Finca Magdalena Eco Lodge provides accommodations, a restaurant, an outdoor swimming pool, a garden and a terrace.

They are a estancia, not a hotel. A nice place surrounded by nature and old style. I got to see some new species of birds I didn't know, saw some petrogliphs, etc, Very quiet and charming. I had some issues with bats, but the manager moved me to a nicer room, so they work the extra mile to keep visitors happy.

Very small place but with everything we needed.

Very small place but with everything we needed. We rented a scooter from Guti Motor Rentals. They were good would use them again. Cafe Campestre has fabulous food. We went everyday. As a days activity we walked up to Finca Magdalena and from there you pay a small fee and can visit the petroglyphs. On the way back there is a nice pool to swim in (small fee) On the other day we took our scooter out to Charco Verde Reserve. Would recommend. There’s a lovely walk and beach for a swim

There were several places to eat, one of which, Cafe Campestre, had Indian meals, hand-made pasta, and other selections. The only bad thing was dogs roaming through the restaurant looking for food. This is the only restaurant I ate at, and is probably by far the best place in town to eat. Didn't see any Nicas eating there. Probably kind of expensive for them.

Lots of great restaurants in the area.

Lots of great restaurants in the area. Make sure you have a way to move around, whether you rent a car or a motorcycle, it's very important you do. Eating at El Pital was amazing. There are three other restaurants I thoroughly enjoyed too: Bustavo Food Bus (which is right beside El Pital), Cafe Campestre, and Playa Mango.

The hotel is at a starting point to climb up the Maderas volcano. My room had an amazing view of the Concepcion volcano. Although there is no kitchen, they provide delivery options . The pizza was wonderful!!!

    A really cool village.

A really cool village. It is rustic but you get a great sense of what life is like on the island. Everyone was very friendly and we always felt safe. Surprisingly, there were some amazing restaurants in the area with really good prices. Shout out to Mediteranea Pizzeria and Cafe Campestre.
