I love phants Lodge, hotel in Ban Wang Malako

Located in Ban Huai Thawai, 16 miles from Santorini Park Cha-Am, I love phants Lodge provides accommodations with an outdoor swimming pool, free private parking, a garden and a shared lounge.

To start off my review, I want to begin by saying, this is a beautiful place that rehabilitates animals that have been through some very abusive and exploitative situations. I love the concept of the place, but must highlight a few things for you to get a full idea of the place before arrival. That way you can decide if this place is for you or not. Firstly, I highly recommend booking the full-day tour before arriving at the place, as it can be very unsettling to see monkeys and other animals locked up in cages (although they are spacious), without understanding the full process of rehabilitating them and each specific animals living situation prior to coming to the sanctuary. There is a story behind each animal and as a result you might not understand what you are witnessing unless you have gone through the tour first. Secondly, there is a variety of animals on the property. To name a few: elephants, monkeys, birds (of many kinds), deer, bears, tigers, leopards, etc. There is even a pig, a cow and multiple chickens. Which is why I found it very unsettling to see these 3 animals offered on the menu to eat. Now, of course they’re not eating the animals that are residing at the sanctuary, but how can a place that has such a stance against animal exploitation and abuse serve animals to eat on their menu? For example, there we were on the tour meeting a pig and a cow that have become friends, then watching little chickens running around the whole property like they own the place. Forward to our lunch where we were served vegetarian options, featuring chicken satay… It left me feeling not only confused to their belief system, but unsettled at everyone casually eating animals we were hanging out with moments ago. Third, I want to highlight the lodge and my room. Upon arrival to the lodge itself, it oversees a massive space for elephants to roam freely and also trees some of the monkeys reside in.

Beautiful little oasis close to several attractions. The grounds are beautifully kept, the pool and rooms are very clean, the front desk staff are very friendly and helpful and the restaurant is great. The included breakfast had a good combination of Thai and western food. We loved our stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone.
