Most relaxing place I know on the planet. Locally built, owned an run lodge in a not very developed part of Zansibar. Not for people who wants parties and beach life, but if you're after beautifull surrondings, friendly environment and comfy, relaxing days this place is highly recommended. Food selection is a little limited, room standard is not european, and its about as remote as you get on Zansibar, but none of this matters to me.

On the way back from our boat tour we sailed down the coast while our guide pointed out all the hotels. I can honestly say that, from the boat vantage point, there wasn't another one that I'd prefer to be at. Several were far more swanky, but Aya Beach Resort has a good combination of low-key accommodation, and a nice location overlooking a wonderful beach, which also acts as the hub of the local community. The hotel is quite ragged around the edges, which wouldn't suit everyone. The accommodation is fairly rudimentary, but the bed is comfy, there's a sitting area, a patio and AC (essential here). The shower-room is basic but adequate. The restaurant serves excellent food, but a limited menu, so after six days it's hard to avoid repeats. The atmosphere is relaxed. Around the hotel there is very little to do, which is great for a few days, but beyond six I think I'd want something more. The hotel purports to be 4-star, but this wouldn't bear comparison if we were in Europe. However, despite some expected developing world shortcomings, overall we feel incredibly fortunate to have stumbled on this little gem. Not perfect, but jolly nice.

We stayed one night at Salida Beach. It is located a bit outside of the centre of Kizimkazi. By scooter, it takes you around 5 minutes to get to the main road and the main beach. The room was perfect. Every room has a little balcony or a terrace. It was superclean, the waterpressure was strong, and there was even a mini-fridge in the room. The ventilator is very fast and in gerneall the room was very well temperatured, no AC necessary at all. The wifi was stable and fast. The place has a generator, so there are no problems with powercuts. The area of Salida Beach is quite big, with a lot of trees which keep the place cool. There are some sunbeds directly at the coastline on the small cliff over the water, where you can watch the sunset or just relax. There is also a hammock. There is no sand beach, but stairs lead you down to the ocean if you want to swim, which I highly recommend, especially if it is high tide. The breakfast is out of this world. Everyone gets a big plate of fruits, then the eggs as you want them with guacamole and bread and 2 pancakes. For drinks, they had coffee, tea, and a very very good juice. There is the opportunity to have dinner at Salida Beach as well, but we did not try that. The staff was super friendly, they welcomed us, showed us the place, and were helpful with all our questions. We will definitely come again😁

This place has an amazing ambient and a beautiful soul! It was like a hub for the coolest people from every country, looking for a peaceful, extremely relaxed vacation in a bit of wilderness, heartfelt conversations with alcohol next to the fire… it’s all in the package, and as a bonus you get one of the best teams - owners and staff members that are right there for you literally every minute.
Thank you all guys- Benjamin, Annick, Cliffton, Melania, Elisabeth and others whose names we did not get to know;) You were all so amazing that even after two weeks it was a pity to leave. We look forward to meeting you all again!
PS. A big thanks to Cliffton for recommending us Malaika, We enjoyed it to the fullest ;-)

It’s a very quiet and enjoyable place and you can book lots of activities from there but overall there is not much going outside the hotels. The public beach doesn’t have any good restaurants or shops so you’re pretty much tied to your resort.

The location is more quiet then other places, they do not have a beach like Kendwa but it you are just looking to relax a couple of days this does not matter. It is like on a little cliff, sooo nice!

Kizimkazi is a village, although in fact there are 2 distinct and separate areas, with 2 beaches. The rest of the area is comprised of large, private self-contained resorts with their own private stairways.
There is not much to explore, but boat owners offer big-game fishing and dolphin-watching.
There are only 2 restaurants, although some of the private resorts offer their restaurants to the public; but at a price.
Hardly any touting which is nice;
3 or 4 days is probably sufficient to see all there is to see.

Place was very clean, food was nice and staff were very friendly, always available to assist
They also organized transport for us to travel around
Pete(Rasta man) was very friendly and he gave me some plants to bring to South Africa, I have them in my garden now
Morning shower was terrible, water was always cold and it seemed like their geyser or boiler was faulty
We booked for 1 week - all inclusive and thank God we did because everything was insanely expensive.
The staff were always friendly and the hotel activities were a lot of fun (painting classes, aqua aerobics etc). The room was nice, with a beautiful view of the sea and a nice shared pool (shared between 2 other rooms).
The buffet was in general mediocre - depending on the day you could say it was enjoyable. The drinks at the bars were also ok although quality varied greatly depending on the bartender.
the gym is nice as well as the pool
We stayed at this beautiful place for 2 nights and wished we had stayed longer. Muhammad who runs this place is an amazing host and ensured the guests are well taken care of. The place is away from the hustle and bustle of tourists and it truly felt like a home away from home. Loved the natural but creative rooms, the open ceiling bathrooms (loved it), and the laid back feeling at this place. The perfect place to just absolutely chill, unwind and enjoy nature. A must visit in Zanzibar.
Magnificent location. It's far from most things but that's precisely why you go there. It has a host of great facilities - pool, yoga, beach lounges and direct ocean/beach access. Unrivalled sunset location. The front desk staff were ok - a bit distant - but the rest of the staff were wonderful: the perfect balance of professional and personal - I felt like a brother and guest at the same time. I love the outdoor shower! And the food was great.
- Very friendly staff and always attended to our requests.
-Privacy in the rooms ( hotel responded to my request and built a fence around our private pool for extra privacy).
- Food selection and various entertainment during dinner.
-Spa service is very professional thanks to Caroline.
-well equipped gym.
-bed mattress is very comfortable
-option of having breakfast in the villa is not to miss
- each room has dedicated 2 bicycles to use
Superior staff sometimes using limited resources, working as a team, always willing to please you
Large property with just over 100 guest capacity; never feels crowded, plenty of space
Really enjoyed Swahili lesson and organized visit to a local village, school and Usumba Rock Beach
Thank You Yusuf, Ivan, Maria and the entire team for providing a 10-STAR experience
-The staff were very friendly and have great potential if trained properly. They always went out of their way to help.
-The staff organized a great birthday surprise in our room and were quick to set it up.
-Resort location was lovely.
-Resort furniture / design was nice.
-Great communication with hotel booking staff, prior to our arrival via Booking.com.
It was a fantastic stay. Great and friendly workers. Beautiful location and amazing food at the restaurant. Also it's a good place if you are on vacation but also you have to work. It is quite and great WiFi service. I did all my meetings there. Very helpful workers if you need anything outside the hotel like going to ATM 🏧 they assist you with pleasure.
I stayed two nights in the villa. It's truly beautiful: Big room and bathroom, nice gardens and the pool is just perfect for a morning bath. The location is quite close to the beach, the breakfast is abundant and the best part is the attention of the staff which was amazing! If I am back to Kizimkazi, I would definitely stay in Kameleon blue again.
beautiful place with a homely atmosphere, run by a great multicultural family with good taste and respect :)..kind of at the end of the world :) but it was exactly what we needed at the end of our trip. If we ever have a chance to get in Kizimkazi again, this place will definitely be our choice! Thank you guys! Dzieki za vszystko!!:)
This is a very nice, very small paradise in the end of the world. Food was good, people very warmly welcoming and friendly. We only left the property for snorkeling right in front of the hotel. If you are looking for something that is NOT a huge resort and few people to enjoy the beautiful view on the sea and colours, this is great.
We booked the hotel last minute at 2:00 a.m. and were still able to check in at 2:30 a.m. Omar, the owner, had no problem with that. After checking out, I realized I had left my power bank in the hotel, but I was already at another hotel. Omar went out of his way to bring me the power bank - so kind of him. Excellent accommodation!
The room was very spacious and had two double beds in it as well as a ventilator. The owner is really nice and can provide you with a lot of information about activities not just for Kizimkazi but for stone town as well. The breakfast was exquisite with a fruit platter and lots of different food for you to try
The food was excellent and the hospitality from mama root is as if you are at home. All the arrangements for so organized and also the beach is so in front of the property that you will just sit on the beach whole day and still will not be bored.
Perfect location in Kizimkazi, very quiet place far from the tourism.
Wonderful big swimming pool
Wonderful view and good to swim with the high tide.
Good wi fi
Perfect house keeping and cleaning
Thank you for the wonderful stay at your hotel! The warm hospitality of your manager and the attentive staff truly made our stay unforgettable. We look forward to returning soon!
