It is reasonably close to a few reservoirs like Anderson Ranch Dam and CJ Strike Reservoir and a couple major rivers. Boise is about 40 miles further down the road. The city itself, unless I missed it someplace, only had about 2 blocks of local shops (construction downtown) and closer to freeway a Walmart. Some nicer hotels by the freeway that would probably be best to stay in - others in town are rather dilapidated. The Mountain Home Airforce Base is there on the outskirts. When we were there it was very hot (105 vs Pocatello at 90) very desert setting, little water, many homes looked like they needed water and refreshing.

It might have been an older hotel, but it has internet, good beds, and very clean. What more do you want. The night manager was exceptional, and since I was traveling by myself, and knew my arrival time would be near midnight, he has reserved a room next to his family quarters, and had turn on the AC for me so it was comfortable when I arrived. We arrived incredibly late but our host was VERY gracious in accommodating our check-in. The room was very well maintained with newer furniture. The microwave and mini fridge were an added bonus at this price point. The additional AC outlets provided in the alarm clock were well appreciated given the vintage of the hotel. The omlettes were very tasty!!! And the turkey sausage was better than we thought it would be. The staff was helpful, courteous and welcoming.
