Port Elizabeth is a beautiful coastal city with miles of beaches and is true to its nickname the Friendly City. The older parts in Central have stunning views and buildings but unfortunetaly the local government has allowed it to become neglected, uncared for and in some places dangerous. What a pity, as the old centre with its harbour views and gracious historical buildings should be the gem of the city. That said, there are still other places worth a visit as property owners in the central area really make an effort to keep their properties well maintained and in the spirit of what it used to be. There are many restaurants and my favourites are the local ones, each with their own vibe and unique menus. I just love Port Elizabeth.

Gqeberha to give its official name is a fairly relaxed place as largish cities go. It has great beaches though you need to be prepared for windy weather that can reduce the fun of being on a beach. There is a lot of history, with interesting sites to visit. Also some great food options. It is not the country’s top tourist hot spot but has plenty of attractions that are in any case better enjoyed without a massive crowd.MachanickSouth Africa

Also, a superb bathroom with an excellent shower and the option of a deep bath if that’s your preference. The room servicing was immaculate The food was outstanding. I was on my own in the dining room each night yet the food was as good as any I’ve enjoyed over the years and I have now reached old git status.
