The Zollverein Mine, Unesco Heritage, worths the visit. I was there on business, but I had a great time visiting the several parks built where once there were mines or steel usines. It is a diverse city, very green. Not the very turistical place, though.

The staff were exceptionally polite and friendly and spoke very good English. As a wheelchair user all aspects of my needs were catered for ie: automatic doors. The staff named Mara always welcomed us kindly and often checked on us if we're good or needed anything else. She's very hospitable. The hotel in general has an italian vibe.
