Wow. Just wow. After some unexpected weather and car troubles, 'Rambler's Rest' couldn't be a more fitting name.
The owners went over and above to ensure we had a terrific stay, the GIGANTIC hot tub with spa shoes and robes was a real treat and the eco friendly toiletries were a very welcome surprise.
Thought and care has gone into every inch of this place and after swearing I'll never go hiking in Dartmoor again, knowing this place exists actually makes it feel not quite so daunting.
It was an emergency booking after our camping gear didn't perform quite as we wanted in the hail and the rain and our boots weren't quite prepared for the amount of bog we encountered so it was a true oasis.
It makes me really happy that in a world of chains that places like this still exist, where passion and personality can shine through and make a trip to the English countryside a true delight, no matter what else is happening with the weather!
Despite feeling quite beaten up by our hiking experiences we were so refreshed the following day after staying here that we ventured out again on waking for a coastal walk instead of scurrying back to the city as we were promising ourselves before we arrived.
Thank you Nikki and Terry for turning 'nightmare' into 'adventure' and making the trip something we could laugh about as soon as the following day.
We'll be back!

location is perfect for walks either local or car drive away. Princetown close by, Prison Museum, Haytor has a good visitor centre and places to grab a bite. Tavistock has sister hotel, Bedford hotel, static market is great as is the 2 weekly pannier market. Geese (6) and ducks (4 ducklings) a lovely distraction.
Hotel has ambience, it's v cosy but not claustrophobic elegant but not OTT, old fashioned but not 'out of date'. Interesting artefacts, memorabilia. V comfy fireside chairs.
Lovely staff, can't do enough for you from the housekeeping crew to the reception and dining/bar staff. They care that you should have a good break.

We had the opportunity for a Bank Holiday break booked at two days notice and the Two Bridges delivered everything we wanted.
The location on Dartmoor is sheltered by the local topography, it's in a dip adjacent to the road, but offers outstanding views within a few hundred metres of the hotel for possibly twenty miles in some direction.
There is nothing of the normal near to the hotel. If you desire splendid remoteness without being massively isolated the Two Bridges is the place.
Parts of the hotel date to the late C18th, the lawned gardens provide space, the river flows through the grounds and the hotel has geese, ducks and sheep roaming free within the grounds.
The room (No 36) was excellent, the lounge, siting rooms and dining room have some wonderful artefacts from bygone eras, the food plentiful, beautifully cooked and served and the Staff were awesome.

You would struggle to find a hotel that matches the two bridges in terms of location, it's stunning and the hotel is charming. The food is very good! The only downside is the interior, aside from the restaurant it could do with a freshen up. But in terms of value for money, there are no negatives.

perfect location, beautiful old building with amazing artefacts, four poster bed, rooms decorated with style and memories of a previous era. hints of .... (see for yourself). some lovely touches. walks directly from hotel, the rest of Dartmoor in easy reach. no matter the weather this hotel is comfort personified. friendly staff. we'll be back.
Charming, low key but twinkly hosts who made this such an easy, relaxing first hotel stay with our dog. Fantastic location for walks and views, lovely sausages for breakfast, lots of safe garden space for the dog to play and make friends. If you are lucky you might even get a live jazz concert in the evening too. You feel Chris and Sue really enjoy what they do.
DInner was very good. The food was fresh and locally sourced. Staff made sure that we were comfortably seated in a space with ample room for our dogs. Breakfast was also delicious and very filling! The hotel was also well placed for easy access to the woods and moor nearby. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Breakfast was excellent. Dinner was nice but rather expensive and could have more choice on the ale carte menu. Afternoon cream teas very good. The location was excellent being in the heart of the moors. Also, that it was a dog friendly hotel with doggie treats on arrival, was a plus too.
Beautiful location, views were spectacular.
Our hosts were so friendly and welcoming
The rooms throughout the hotel were decorated to a very high standard and we spent a great couple of hours drinking in the honesty bar with our host . The bar was well stocked and very reasonably priced
The hotel staff were very friendly, the lounge was very comfortable and the food very good.
A good selection of local beers available at the bar.
We were able to leave our dog in the room while we went for meals which not all hotels allow.
The room was well appointed and comfortable.
Wonderful food. Great location. Very charming and a lovely family feel. Staff were very friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Room was cosy. Bathroom spacious and clean. Character of the hotel was just wonderful - the ceilings were a real talking point!
Amazing ! The B&B is a 20' walk from Two Bridges, 3' by car. Breakfast was divine and they made me a sack lunch for £6 that included a sandwich, crisps, banana and KitKat, really nice.
From there, easy access to many hikes including the enchanting Wistman's woods!
Perfectly nestled in the middle of Dartmoor Park, this hotel has an attentive staff and spacious rooms. The bathroom, newly remodeled, featued an unusually large and comfortable shower (as well as a separate tub). Breakfast was excellent.
We loved the historic decor, the canopy bed, the delicious breakfast. We hurried to Two Bridges and were kindly accommodated to watch the Queen’s funeral in the lounge as we waited for our check in time.
Perfect location for exploring Dartmoor and Devon. A walk away from the Wistman’s Wood. Beautiful room and grounds. Excellent staff. Delicious free breakfast and great dinner too!
Dinner and breakfast was delicious! I love staying where you can have meals too. There’s a good walk nearby in Dartmoor National Park and an information center.
A very atmospheric hotel set in a splendid location
Excellent staff - comfortable public areas with open fires.
Top quality breakfast with local produce
A beautiful facility located within Dartmoor National Park. The staff was very cordial, the breakfast was excellent and guest room were well appointed.
