The view from my room was incredible! Although I stayed there only for 8 hours, I really enjoyed my stay here. The room and kitchen were really large. There were several toilets and bathrooms! Highly recommended if anyone is visiting the area.

If you're looking for fancy accommodation with new furniture and lots of space, this may not be suitable for you. However, if you're interested in meeting locals, this is a great opportunity. Some reviews mention the smell of horses in the house, but it's not like the house is filthy; it's most likely just some rugs or shoes in the hall (if you have a dog, they're probably the first thing you smell in your hall). I should mention that our room was clean and odor-free. The kitchen is small, so I wouldn't recommend any big cooking. We spent just one night here. We cooked some pasta, took a hot shower, chatted with the house owner (a nice guy), and got some good sleep - perfect for this purpose.
Set on a farm 8 km from Grundarfjördur, this modern guest house offers a 9-hole golf course, plus free Wi-Fi and parking. Snæfellsjökull National Park is 40 minutes’ drive away.

Grundarfjordur is a convenient town for exploring the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It has a good grocery store and two excellent cafes for coffee & treats. A little food truck is open until the end of August. We stayed here 4 nights so we would have time to explore and I'm glad we did because one day was too stormy to see sights and another day wasn't optimal.

Destination port for cruise ships, correspondingly temporarily overcrowded. All pilgrimage to Kirkjufell (known from social media), which is accordingly overcrowded. Deterrent example of Icelandic mass tourism. :-(

Definitely not worth the extra drive time, town is not set up for tourists at all, hotel was 350 euros, which was very high compared to all other night on our trip. We spent the same, but had much better accommodations. Much more to do in the other towns

The town/village itself is really quite sweet.
The town/village itself is really quite sweet. We didn't spend much time there, but we did drive in to use the grocery store and walk around a bit. Kirkjufell Mountain is really quite stunning and one of the most recognizable Icelandic landmarks. You can just sit and look at it all day.
For such a small town, Grundarfjordur is packed with loads of hotels, guesthouses, shops and places to eat. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

This small mountain gets a lot of positive press and yes, it's kind of cool but really not all that great. We were trying to find it the last time we were here (three years ago) and drove right past it. There is a parking lot on the left as you are leaving town and you need to park and get out for the mountain to "look" like it looks in the pictures you see everywhere- with the waterfalls, etc.
There are numerous sights around Iceland that make this one look like a joke. Still...stopping for 5 minutes to get a picture or two will be worth it but you won't look back on this one and remember how awesome it was.

A gorgeous setting next to Kirkjufell Mountain!
A gorgeous setting next to Kirkjufell Mountain! It is a very convenient base for exploring the Snaefellsness peninsula. Dont miss the wonderful restaurant, Bjargarsteinn Mathus, where our meal was truly exceptional.
This was by far the best value accommodation we stayed at in Iceland. Check in was very easy. The kitchen had everything you needed to make yourself a meal. The bathrooms are shared but are some of the best shared bathroom experiences we've had - 2 very powerful, hot showers in separate rooms downstairs and then a separate toilet near the rooms. We also made use of the free laundry facilities! The decor is basic, yes, but clean and comfortable and for the price, especially in Iceland, we really felt like we'd got a good deal
Great location. You can see Kirkjufell from the parking spot and to drive near it takes only few minutes. Caffeteria is on the first floor of the building and the grocery shop is just a minute away. Parking place has enough space. Apartments are equiped with all the necessary things for cooking. Very comfortable beds and warm interior. Moreover, apartment is very clean and the owner is friendly and polite.
The guesthouse feels like a little cosy inn, and we got to meet other guests when making breakfast in the shared kitchen. The best things we like are (1) cleanliness and completeness of the small room, shower, sink, toilet and nice bed all included, and (2) a spectacular view of Kirkjufell, particularly at sunset.
The little town Grundarfjordur is quaint. We had dinner at Cafe 59 two days in a row.
The interior of the hotel was extremely clean and tidy. The staff were so nice and helpful- my friends and I had instant noodles and even though the kitchen was already closed, they were still kind enough to offer to heat up our food and provide some hot water. The rooms were nice and clean and lots of space. Right outside our window was the Kirkjufell mountain too, which was a nice bonus :)
It was the most amazing accommodation we had in Iceland during our 7 day trip. A room with large windows and a view directly on Kirkjufell, we even managed to see northen lights in this area, which we were happy because we did not have a chance to see it anywhere else. the shared kitchen is very well equipped, there is a town with a shop nearby, check-in was easy and hassle-free, thank you
A little treasure! This guesthouse is super comfy. The rooms are very nice and we really enjoyed our stay here. The bathrooms are super clean and modern. The kitchen has everything you need and the armchairs in the living room invite for a relaxing end of the day. This has been the nicest accomodation on our whole trip through Iceland!
Everything. Modern, new, spacious, very clean, near to Kirkjufell 5 minutes drive. So you drive in the evening or early morning to take pictures. Breakfast cafés are in walking distance from the hotel. There are restaurants in walking distance. Supermarket and gas station next door.. Dishes and microwave in the kitchenette and Netflix.
The location is the best. The little town is like a paradise. It's the most beautiful.
The apartment is nice and modern, very well equipped. My teenage daughter commented it's like straight from the Pinterest. We stayed 8 different places in Iceland. This is our favorite. Wish we could stay longer.
Cottages were really easy to check into, clean and well equipped. Our favourite place during our 9 day iceland stay where we stayed at around 7 different hotels. Kitchen was really nice and well equipped. Also excellent value for money.
Great apartment! Nice size and amenities. Very close walking distance to groceries. They had a washer/dryer, but it was in Icelandic so it was difficult to figure out. Everything you could need for a stay.
great location to visit Kirkjufell but also remote enough to view the Aurora, easy self check-in, kitchen was very basic but the bed was the best we've slept on throughout our 10 day road trip around Iceland.
Spacious, largest property we had booked in our 10 Day tour of Iceland. Comfortable beds, Washer & dryer. Had everything, great for families. Great Location, Short walk in to town, Kirkjufell Mountain View
Really good sized very clean room, great shower, nice breakfast, good location, parking and all for a good price (by Icelandic standards!). We could see Kirkjufell from our room. Definitely recommend.
The property was spacious. We had plenty of room. We like its close proximity to the Kirkjufell Mountain. We saw the northern lights there, about 10 mins drive from the hotel. Pretty convenient.
The lady that runs it was very nice and helpful. Clean room. The kitchen had everything for cooking our own meal. Steep steps to go upstairs, but that seemed to be everywhere in Iceland:)
