The hotel is only 5 minutes walking from the train station and 10 minutes from the historical center. Our room on the 4th floor was recently renovated and was equipped with a fridge, comfortable bed and a desk. The bathroom was quite spacious and renovated. Breakfast was quite rich by Italian standards. The internet connection was good. The only minus: bcs the hotel is located next to the big road, it can be noisy if you don’t close the window. My husband likes sleeping with an open window, so it was a bit of an issue.
Grand Hotel Mattei offers spacious rooms with extra-large beds. Just a 5-minute drive from Ravenna city centre, it also provides free Wi-Fi throughout and free parking.

Ravenna was better than I expected. We arrived by cruise ship and instead of rushing off to another city (Venice or Bologna) we chose to spend one night in Ravenna. Accomodations were near the train station and the historic churches and sites. Ravenna has beautiful mosaics in several locations and a well organized tour pass system that is easy to access.

Wonderful place! It was so very pretty and historic. The city allows you to visit the museum of Alighieri Dante, one of the most important poet in Italy's culture. Also you can visit the Dante Alighieri's tomb. The city have a lot of bar to drink, seat and listen music, restaurants to eat the excellent and traditional italian food (for example piadina).

Ravenna is a beautiful place to visit.
Ravenna is a beautiful place to visit. It's easy to get around the town center and there are a lot of places to eat--across all price ranges.
So many beautiful mosaics. It's worth taking a tour for these. We did a guided tour with Silvia Giogoli at guidaravenna.com and it was worth the cost. She is so knowledgable about the history of the city and the mosaics in particular. Really gives you a better appreciation of the art.
If they block the guide's name and website, it was the guided walking tour offered via the booking site called Mosaic Tiles Guided Tour.

One full day in Ravenna was perfect for visiting the amazing...
One full day in Ravenna was perfect for visiting the amazing Byzantine mosaics. Be sure to go to Sant' Apollinare Nuovo to get your tickets to the various sites--two require a timed entry, so have your day planned. All of the mosaics are wonderful and well worth seeing, but our favorites were the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia behind the Basilica, and Cappella di Sant'Andrea inside the Archiepiscopal Museum. Dante's Tomb was neat, as were the mosaics under water at the Basilica di San Francesco. And off the main tourist trail is the little Arian Baptistry. . . heck, you gotta see 'em all!
To get the most out of seeing these treasures, read up on the Arian Heresy and the conflict between the Goths/Arians and the Justinian Christians. Different hidden symbols everywhere. There's a short summary in the Rick Steve's tour guides that's helpful.
And when you're tired of mosaics, stop at the covered market for some amazing food. It would be a great "half-way" point for lunch (wish we'd known).

Great little city with virtually everything within walking...
Great little city with virtually everything within walking distance. The late antique basilicas and their mosaics are truly astonishing and there is a great selection of bars, cafes and restaurants as well. Go to Profumo di Piadina for a great lunchtime snack! Museums are also good, especially the Mosaic Museum Tamo and the Classe Museum, presenting Ravenna's astounding history in an impressive and engrossing manner, one of their best I've visited and only a short t bus ride away.
We stayed for one night prior to a cruise. The location is short walk from the train station. The room was small, as are most European hotel rooms, but the hotel met our needs. We paid for a room to include breakfast and it was well worth it. The bed was a little firm for our tastes. The bathroom was nice, the shower could've used a little more water pressure.
The hotel was nice to let us store our luggage as we explored the beautiful town of Ravenna and see the amazing mosaics inside the Basilicas before heading to our cruise.
We loved this hotel! The room was spacious, quiet, spotless, and very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent - some of the best variety and quality we’ve had at a hotel in Italy. And the staff we wonderful! It was my birthday while we were there, and I didn’t mention it, but the staff must have noted it from my passport at check in. On my birthday at breakfast they brought me a cake!! They totally went above and beyond. Would highly recommend this hotel!
This was my third stay at Hotel Byron. I find it a very friendly hotel, and it is ideally placed for exploring Ravenna, 10 minutes from the railway station and very close to the churches of the mosaic circuit. I had a single room, as I was travelling with a friend. I had plenty of space and my room was well-equipped. My bed was comfy and I had a good bathroom with a shower. Buffet breakfast is excellent. Highly recommended.
The location was super for us and near the train station. Our group rented two triples that were more than adequate for our two night stay in Ravenna. We had free parking and could easily walk to sights and the restaurants. The breakfast was great.
One of our party dropped her phone on the parking lot and the hotel found it and texted and called us to let us know so that we could return and retrieve it! Great service!
the room was HUGE! plus a spacious bathroom and tons of sunlight from a big window. free breakfast was great and staff was delightful, SHOUTOUT TO CHRISTIAN from the front desk who arranged us a shuttle to the cruise port for FREE when he didn't have to. he also helped us with taxis and gave us wine and snacks while we waited, hotel cube is a great place to stay especially if you are cruising out of Ravenna!
This is a great hotel with excellent location at a very reasonable price. Only 300 yards from the train station and close to all the sights. The room was a good size and very clean. Francesco is very helpful. The hotel has the added benefit of a first-class restaurant on site. It is always busy and the food is delicious. Hotel guests get 20% off. If I return to Ravenna this would be my first choice.
Corte Maggiore was a wonderful choice. Very clean and modern rooms. It was in a great location with an easy walk to all sites. Also great that there was private parking available. all the staff were very helpful and friendly and very easy to communicate with. Breakfast was ample with a range of fresh food. We would certainly stay there again and highly recommend this boutique hotel.
We changed our plans 1 day before our trip from Lago di Como to Ravenna and it was the best choice ever. Villa Noctis was amazing. Great staff, amazing service and perfect location. You are at the center of the city and only 20 minutes away from the beach. Definitely a big recommendation!
If you plan a city break in Italy Ravenna is the place to go and La stadera is the place to stay. Close to the city center, clean, excellent breakfast, amazing host. Mirko is very friendly, very helpful giving you the best advices on where to go and where to eat. I would give him an 15.
Spacious room with a very comfortable bed. Fun bookcase wallpaper! Portable air conditioner / fan worked great! Breakfast was delicious and ample. Hosts were wonderful and welcoming! The location was near the historic tour area of Ravenna, plenty of wonderful restaurants nearby.
Cant beat the location. Lovely small boutique hotel that had lots of charm. The bar downstairs is lovely for afternoon drinks. Staff were friendly and helpful. Communication was good. Room was extra large and beautiful.. Ravenna is a lovely place to stay.
Beautiful and clean with a friendly helpful staff this lovely boutique-style hotel is across from the Basilica so everything is easy to walk to and there is so much to see and do. The scrumptious breakfast is in their beautiful garden.
Great location, beside train station and bus stop to catch bus to cruise terminal and easy walk into Ravenna City Centre. Staff friendly and very helpful. Bonus was breakfast include. Thank you Hotel Minerva.
Very nice hotel in a very good location next to the Sant Apollinare in Classe Basilica. Ideal base to visit Ravenna. The staff were amazing. The restaurant was very good.
