Romantic location to stay
Our room had a terrace with a beautiful view
Friendly staff
After our stay I got an email from them that we forget our iPad and if they could send it to us (although cost with 87 euro where pretty high)

I liked the little room a lot, it might not have been spacious but it didn't lake anything and the view was amazing. If you can you should stay for a few days and enjoy the village and the surrounding area

Quinta do Barrieiro had been recommended to us by friends and it did not disappoint. Our room was lovely and spacious and the bed extra comfy. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the farm dog was so gorgeous! Even though we went during winter it was still a great spot for a lovely break.

We stayed at Quinta d'Abegoa's apartment, Casa do Souto, which is very cosy and ideal for two people. Everything is really well thought out so the apartment felt bigger than it actually was. The bed is very comfortable and the shower is excellent. The outside space is beautiful - we loved sitting out, listening to the birds and the bells from the sheep, while enjoying the views of the both the castle and over towards the mountains and Spain. We made the most of being able to walk to restaurants in Marvao (although it is uphill all the way!) but we also cooked at the property - the kitchen is tiny but is very well-equipped and has everything you need to self-cater. Our host, Rosa, looked after us extremely well, bringing us breakfast every day, and nothing was too much trouble. We love the area around Marvao and will definitely return for another stay at Casa do Souto.

We stayed at Dom Dinis, overlooking the valley below, in December 2023. Hardly any tourists, wonderfully friendly area. Be sure to visit the church (Igreja de Santiago) of which Saramago wrote on his journey around Portugal! We ate at the excellent Varanda do Alentejo, the lamb stew was fantastic.

The castle is a must see.
The castle is a must see. The views from all directions were unobstructed and gave one the feeling of what it must have been like centuries before when the castle was used as a defensive weapon. Well worth the trip and one had access to almost the entire outer wall.

We stayed in Marvão for 3 days, 2 nights and spent the days touring around. I HIGHLY recommend taking the biking tour with Rail Bike Marvão, it's 16km through the heart of Marvão's nature.
I also HIGHLY recommend you visit the small town or Castelo de Vide.

Amazing old town and stunning castle and scenery. So quiet and relaxing. Even though we have been in the castle and museum, we intend to come back and do it all again because it was such an enjoyable experience.

Just being here gives a lift to the soul!
Just being here gives a lift to the soul! It is beautiful, everyone is so friendly, every winding street you walk down brought a smile to my face, and THAT VIEW!! You turn a corner and it takes your breath away. I walked here from Castelo de Vide and the path was well marked and gorgeous, with birds of prey hovering and I even saw what I think is an Egyptian mongoose.... Lots of beautiful arts and crafts and good restaurants. I stayed at the Estalagem de Marvao which couldnt be faulted, really beautiful and friendly. Totally recommended (tho some parts of the town walls are not for the faint hearted - but there are plenty of steps down if it gets too much for the vertiginous!).
The position is excellent. The owner is a very helpful and friendly man who speaks good English and the other staff I met were also lovely. Breakfast in the breakfast room was generous and fresh. Well catered.
In general comment on Marvao itself, obviously the streets are very narrow and parking is available in various places. If you can judge it without previously being there, choose a parking spot at the higher elevation as carrying your luggage is difficult and bag wheels on cobblestone streets don't work.
The Hotel is centrally located inside the historic walls of the village within easy walking distance to the castle and all along the ramparts which offer amazing views. Plentiful free parking was available next to the property.
Breakfast had a lot of variety and staff was able to accommodate us with GF bread and recommended the very good Varanda do Alentejo restaurant for supper.
The town has a high end feel to it with all the buildings nicely renovated while keeping their historic charm.
A wonderful and enchanting place to stay in the small hilltop village of Marvao! We had the entire house and it was like living in a fairytale. We watched the sunset on one side of the castle and the moonrise from our terrace. Stunning! The full eclipse of the moon was in the early morning so I walked alone through the walled village but the moon had already set and it was just me, a white cat and two birds in the pre dawn stillness.
A small hotel located in the center of the exquisite Marvao village. Our room was tidy and well equipped (AC, shower gels, hair dryer, towels). The view from the window was amazing. It was possible to park the car near the entrance. The breakfast in the restaurant just in front was good (eggs, bacon, local cheese, cakes and fruits, cereals, yogurt, coffee and juice). The staff is very nice and helpful.
Excellent hotel with a wonderful view of the Marvao castle and overlooking a river. The room was large and comfortable with an excellent shower. We had a veranda and view. The continental breakfast had an option for eggs and there were local sweets to try. The location is good to explore Marvao and the nearby area. Parking was very easy on the street behind the hotel.
The location was excellent & the staff was wonderful . . . very responsive & helpful! The breakfast offered a variety of options & was very good. We loved that there was very convenient parking right by the hotel!! The location was great in that it was close to restaurants & a little bar with a wonderful views for our afternoon sangria!!
The location was great (within the fortified walls of Marvao, walking distance to everything). Note that this property has two units: the larger is on the second story with more windows and light, a balcony and views over the city walls. The first floor unit is small and quite dark with small windows looking at the walls.
This Studio was spotless and beautifully decorated. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchenette was enough to get you going.
The staff was friendly, the grounds beautiful. A place to relax, put your feet up and Recharge.
Marvão is nearby with sites and restaurants. We will definitely be back.
Great location in a very cool castle town. The room was clean and comfortable and our host was wonderful. Very warm and friendly. And they prepared a wonderful breakfast. There was a terrace we could use with a beautiful view. We loved Marvao and we would stay at Casa da Arvore again.
The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is just perfect for enjoying the calm, close to a lot of interesting historical places to visit, and very close to the city of Marvão which is a must to visit.
Pets allowed and private parking just perfect.
The property is beautiful and we were very comfortable . The outdoor space is great for children and the castle of Marvão is worth visiting. We enjoyed driving through Portalegre and a dip in the sever river.
The hotel, modern, clean and comfortable beds. Easy to park, with the river swimming pool round the corner and a path that takes you to Marvao castle in a half hour easy walk. Good breakfast
