Nevada offers great highway transport north - south.

Nevada offers great highway transport north - south. Way better than the I5 or CA 395. High elevation so snow is a risk, but low precipitation so chances are you will be OK. Check the weather websites for you go. Driving is fun, traffic is light. Scenic and relaxing. Hawthorne is a good stopping point with a couple of OK hotels. El Capitan casino offers tremendous value for good food if you don't need great ambience and professional service; servers are well meaning and very nice!

We always stay in Hawthorne when traveling through Nevada.

We always stay in Hawthorne when traveling through Nevada. It’s a break in a road trip. Not enough to do to stay more than one day. We eat at the casino because we haven’t found more than a couple of other places to eat.

We found Peppers burger stand and enjoyed that and talked with local residents while waiting for our food. Hawthorne was located in the middle of our trip and was located in a perfect place for us to spend the night.

A lovely desert town where our innkeeper was "old school" in the very best sense. It was a night's stopover on our cross-country trip but what we saw of the town and surrounding are made us want to come back when California fires aren't affecting air quality( it was 152 AQI). We were choosing a route to Oregon and the innkeeper was able to tell us that it was clear up through Susanville so we could go the shortest way. He quizzed us about our travels from the south so he could pass the info along. This was the best maintained and most comfortable place we stayed in our 78 day travels back and forth across the US.

Hawthorne is interesting only if you are passing through.

Hawthorne is interesting only if you are passing through. We drove there, going from Fallon, NV to Lee Vining/Mono Lake, CA. There is not much to do in Hawthorne, especially during COVID-19 era. The town primarily exists for the Army depot, the world's largest ammunitions storage facility. There are some 3,000 underground bunkers surrounding the town, all throughout the entire high desert basin in which the town sits. It's near Walker Lake. The landscape is all part of the fascinating Great Basin region, meaning any rainfall here stays and does not have an outlet to the oceans.

Hawthorne is a quiet little town.

Hawthorne is a quiet little town. Most all of the folks I met were nice. People are very nervous about covid. So if you come bring a mask. Labor Day weekend is not a good time to visit. Motel pool closed due to covid.

I booked the hotel online for my niece who was traveling from Washington State to Nevada. when she arrived the women who went to check her in was talking to herself and acting very strange. my niece was frightened of her. my niece tried to pay cash and the woman was having difficulty counting back her change. my niece got such a bad feeling that she decided not to stay there and went down the street to a different hotel.

The holiday lodge itself is an old and dated building. But, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, There is a microwave, refrigerator, coffee pot and a television. And the staff went out of their way to make sure that your stay was a good one. The water pressure was great. However, the shower head in OUR room could use replacing.

Pool closed, use to have breakfast, no more. I guess this poor hotel has suffered from COVID. In fact the whole town seems to have suffered. We stayed here before and it seemed cheery. I might stay again as a travel point, but I would ask questions first.

Very friendly staff! Wonderful to talk to. The rooms were super clean too. I had booked my stay here after having to leave an airbnb because it was gross and unkempt - and Hawthorne's best delivered! Clean and comfy, at decent rates.

Price was reasonable when other cites went super expensive over Labor Day weekend. There is a pizza place that had the Best pizza EVER - and I lived in Italy USA and many other countries. Worth the trip just for the Pizza.

Clean, spacious, central in the middle of nowhere :-); i.e. Hawthorne, NV. Very nice pool! One of our rooms had a plumbing issue in the middle of the night- staff came and fixed it immediately. Well done!

I enjoyed having a hotel that accepted my little dog. The room was clean and quiet. An adequate one night stay on a road trip. As a solo female traveler I felt the surroundings were safe.

This is the best hotel in Hawthorne. The owner is super nice and the room is fine for a 1 or 2 night stay. They are very accommodating for pets and made us feel welcome upon arrival.

The hotel is nice. However, the food at the El Cap across the street is awful. Never been to a place that could make meatloaf so horrible.
