Winona is an historic town in a stunningly beautiful setting. The views along the Mississippi are fantastic. Lots of parks and places to enjoy the location. The Minnesota Marine Art Museum is a gem -- fantastic exhibitions. Also, lots of good local cafes, shops and dining establishments.

The area is absolutely stunning!
The area is absolutely stunning! Bluffs all around with a river cutting through. Sugar Loaf Bluff is a must-see, and if you're into antiques, there is an antique store at the base that is worth checking out. I spent a little time in the charming downtown area, and I wish I could have stayed longer to do more exploring of that area. The coffee shop I went to - Blooming Grounds - was great!
Some of the parking lot entrances were headache-inducing and be prepared for an odd amount of traffic circles, but I would still love to go back.

I was absolutely excited when I arrived in Winona.
I was absolutely excited when I arrived in Winona. One of the first places I would recommend going is the Welcome/Visitor Center. Katie has a wealth of knowledge, and not just for Winona only. I ordered from Miya and the food was so delicious. I didn’t meet one unfriendly person in Winona. The Super 8 was good for the price, and for a one-night stopover. The towels were not so white. I mentioned it to the desk clerk and she told me they are switching to off-white towels. A sign for the office would have been more helpful. I received an upgrade to a king because when I booked it showed a queen available which needed to be cleaned due to an early checkout and after housekeeping was gone for the day. All in all, I would stay there again. Very convenient location and right at the base of Sugar Loaf!

The people are very friendly.
The people are very friendly. Many beautiful old homes, churches and other buildings. Lots of trees and plants, lakes, the Mississippi and its Bluffs including the limestone pinnacle Sugar Loaf. In Winter one can skate or ice fish on the frozen river. In Summer watch the river traffic or rent a boat.

Winona is a beautiful little town.
Winona is a beautiful little town. There are Two large well known colleges and a Votec. Two very large corporations based there also. What it fails to have is any upscale restaurants or restaurant chains, this is a blue-collar, college town. If you're looking for after-dark excitement, this is not the place. If you're looking to walk around and see nature or take a boat ride with people who are polite and friendly, your in the right place.

Roads to get in and out are curvy and hilly.
Roads to get in and out are curvy and hilly. Not a place i'd like to go in the snow, however I do love the bluffs and the views. We came to the Equestrian Center for an event, typically we stay in our trailer, however we came for a dog event and not horses, so a hotel was required. The Green Mill is a nice bar/restaurant and easy to get to.
The entire place smelled like cigarette smoke so bad when we walked into the room, so we requested a room change. When we got to the second room it was a little better, but the towels smelled so much like smoke and there was hair in the shower and the drain. The toilet had a permanent black stain around the inside of the bowl. Honestly our worst super 8 stay ever. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was ok. It was the first time however I had seen someone unpack tiny little donuts and individually wrap them with Susan wrap.
We especially liked the yard and the rooms. The surroundings were quiet and we felt at home. Breakfast was great and we liked the way we ate with other guests together on a long table. It was great to talk to them and have interesting conversations. Everything was clean and nice and check-in was easy. Although we didn't get to meet the owners, the cook gave us recommendations for Winona and helped us out with questions.
Location was very convenient: near the highway, but not on it, easy drive to downtown Winona, restaurants and the Minnesota Marine Art Museum. Due to Covid, the breakfast was minimal packaged rolls, cereal, and yogurt. All understandable.
Business purpose was meetings at Winona State University. Great location, close to campus. Beautiful city. Really nice, clean, and updated property. Sunday was crowded, but the nice breakfast was able to handle things.
I choose to eat breakfast with relatives at their house. The location was excellent. Right near Winona lake, restaurants, and the train station. And a lovely antique shop right next door!
The hotel was nicely decorated and clean. It felt both inviting and efficient. Staff were very pleasant also. Breakfast was great with a really nice mix of hot and cold items.
Pool and spa area was amazing. Shower in the room was decent size with soaps available. The 2 shades provided extra light protection. Was even able to get delivery to the room.
The communal and delicious breakfast. Nice conversation and sharing. The porches!!! Authentic. Next to Winona state university and close to a great art museum.
