Set in a refurbished 1874 building, Jailhouse Accommodation offers an on-site café and a guest lounge with a cinema projector. It is 10 minutes’ walk from Christchurch Railway Station. Guests enjoy free parking and free WiFi in public areas.

The history of the place was interesting and brought personality to the stay. The code worked well and you could move around the place very independently. It was easy to get to the destination by bus from the airport (bus 3 to Christchurch Hospital and from there bus 7 stops almost in front of the door). The hostel also has many different places to sit and work in peace. A small yard is nice! There is also quite cheap and good take away food places near by. I would definately stay again :)

Renovated in 2015, Urbanz offers accommodation in downtown Christchurch. The building features a range of rooms with either shared or private bathrooms. Free parking is located nearby ad free WiFi is provided throughout.

I liked everything except that sometimes there was hair in the bathroom sinks.

Looking for a hostel?

Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.

We had a double bed room near the top of the building, so I can only say about that. Which was a very nice apartment, kitchen and living area all very clean and comfortable as were the beds. Nice views from a higher up room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Location was close enough to the centre with the shops and restaurants that it was an enjoyable walk. They offer a cheaper shuttle bus service to the airport which is helpful if travelling on a budget. But they were also able to order us a taxi. Hotel great.

Far comfier, cleaner and cheaper than other hostels we've been to NZ. We had a private room. Amazing how more than one pillow each can make you v comfy. Bathrooms next door were v clean. Kitchen and lounges were good. Location excellent. If other Haka Houses are like this then I regret not going to more instead of some of the ones Kiwi Experience align with. I was ill at the time and this was great for me to rest for a day and night.

Great location, wonderful staff and lovely room. Would definitely stay here again. A hidden gem with attention to all the details. We also enjoyed the garden courtyard. Safe neighborhood and a pleasant 10 minute walk to restaurants and shops.
