Located in the heart of Kakadu National Park, Cooinda Lodge Kakadu offers air-conditioned rooms with a private courtyard. Guests enjoy access to outdoor swimming pools and a restaurant. It has been very attractively laid out with mature tropical trees and well kept lawns and pathways. The accommodation units are nicely spaced for privacy and offer a range of choices. We stayed in an ensuite lodge which was very comfortable and had everything we needed including a sitting out area. Only it was too hot for us! The restaurant is excellent with a good selection of delicious food. The coffee is very good also. I enjoyed the effort which had been made to incorporate Aussie native fruit and products into specially created meals. Quite delicious and showed that the chef was both creative and innovative. The staff we met with were all incredibly polite and friendly. They looked as they though they enjoyed their job and were happy to be there. They couldn’t do enough for us. All in all, a really well run place to stay and definitely worth paying a visit for the feel good factor.

Markets were fantastic, we were lucky enough to be in town for Northern Territory Day, so we were back here again for the music and the Fireworks, had to be the best Fireworks I have ever seen, all on 2 barges anchored a couple of hundred meters off the beach, the reflection off the water was amazing.
Whether you'll enjoy Darwin or not really depends on the type of person you are and the type of trip you want. The centre of town is nocturnal - it was busier at night than during the day, absolutely mad, music playing all night long, lots of drunk people! So if you're a party person, you'll probably love it. If you're looking for a quieter trip and more focused on sight-seeing, there are some lovely things to see around Darwin, just stay a bit out of the centre of town. We took a walk along the esplanade; lots of wildlife and beautiful sunsets. The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory is really worth a visit. We also watched a film at the deckchair cinema - real good fun but make sure you take bug repellent! The Mindil beach markets and watching the sunset there was also a highlight. If you want to eat there, don't eat straight away; wait a little while until all the stalls are open. There was so much more choice the second time we walked through!
The Northern Territory Museum and Art Gallery and Aboriginal Fine arts (corner Knuckey and and Mitchell St)well worth the visit. Sunsets spectacular. Mindil Beach market bit low on interesting things to buy, though food stalls good and beach at sunset worth doing. Walk along that cost from Mindil, to Vesteys and then up to Fannie Bay gorgeous. Parap Market fabulous food stalls and worth trip also to go to the Nomad Gallery and best coffee shop(argh I've forgotten the name)by market, not just for its coffee, but for coffee related things it sells. New Flying Doctor and Darwin Bombing Museum on Stokes Wharf great for a visit. Have VR of bombing of Darwin Harbor which is really spooky! Waterfront is good for those who want to swim and some more high end restaurants down there
We enjoyed the Crocodylus farm had a great time there and if you can go on the short boat trip around the lagoon you should make the time to do so. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made a few funny comments. Spent a whole day at Litchfield National Park swimming in the waterholes, waterfalls, springs and cascades. Great day packed a picnic lunch and set off early. We also went to the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, that was great. The defence museum on the East Point was great also. Catch a sunset at Cullen Bay, nice restaurants and grass area to bring the family order some fish and chips from La Beach and sit on the beach front grassed areas or dine in. Beautiful! We also had a meal at the wharf, watched the fish swimming, then walked around the marina and swimming lake. It was easy to get around, we had a navman to assist, definitely hire a vehicle. The humid and hot weather was probably the worst part of the trip we didn't enjoy that, but a nice place to visit.
Our favourite activity was dining while watching the sun setting over the water at various locations including The Darwin Sailing Club at Fannie Bay, the Waterfront restaurants - Crustaceans on the Wharf was a favourite, and Cullen Bay. We also enjoyed our visits to the Darwin Military Museum & Defence of Darwin Experience, and, the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. Both were excellent. Overall, these attractions, plus the relaxed atmosphere of Darwin and the Territorians made our stay most memorable. Shall definitely return to see the places we didn't have time to visit this trip!
plenty to see and do. In and around the city. the culture and lifestyle and the history of the city is worth making the trip to the Northern Territory
Alice Springs is a junction point. It's not a place to stay unless you have something to do there -- tours out to the countryside (get out to see the ranges, gorges, valleys), Uluru (not close, 1/2 day away) or just to refuel as you pass thru to see other points in Northern Territory. Anyone who's been to the U.S. southwest will be in familiar territory in terms of landscape. It's beautiful!! They host many a conference there just because it is so central. Australia is vast...don't be afraid to fly in and out as it's more efficient. The airport is modern. As a Canadian sightseer from Toronto, I loved the hipster cafes in the centre (Todd Mall) that had the better modern food (e.g., Thai / asian and vegan) and the better customer service without being overly pricey. For a more interesting souvenir, I recommend the fabric store. They have amazing squares of fabric (lots of sizes and patterns to choose from) that are easy to frame when you get home, and they don't take up space in your luggage or weigh a lot. If you MUST have a piece of art--there are paintings galore-- shop the different art galleries before buying any of the certified aboriginal art. Definitely stop in at the Alice Springs Desert Park. The half hour bird show was great, very nicely done. We weren't able to do the night visit but everyone likes it. If you are the type of person that prefers a Marriott or a Hilton for accommodation, then stay there. The Doubletree Hilton beside the casino has a good restaurant, rated as one of the best choices in town and I found the food great. But reserve for dinner, it gets full. You'll pay at least $23 for a decent main.
The Kangaroo Sanctuary was absolutely the most fantastic and rewarding thing I did in all of the Northern Territory. ANZAC Hill is worth a look. I found it really interesting. The Botanic Gardens have some really funky art with the beautiful landscape as the background. Loved it.
Darwin the capital city of the Northern Territory is an amazing city and fantastic place to visit. It's full of history and brought to life by locals and a super vibrant multicultural community. Which is great if you're are super tasty street foods.
Katherine is a mediocre town like lots of smaller towns in the Northern Territory needs funding to revitalize it. NT Government spend some money outside Darwin!!
Batchelor
The two bedroom cabin was not fancy, but it was certainly clean, practical and the beds were very comfortable (in one room it was a king size bed and the other were 2 singles - perfect for our family of 4). The facilities in the kitchen were good. Being in the Northern Territory having good air con and ceiling fans made it very comfortable. Advice regarding where to get food was excellent - and I can highly recommend the hotel/motel next door for a good meal.
Great stay. Very friendly, helpful, staff. Great location.
Its location is perfect, it has a kitchenette, the rooms are a generous size, and the pool is quite refreshing. The staff are helpful and very friendly. We loved the surrounding palm trees. In addition, a crew worked constantly to do repairs and clean in the early morning.
Man, we loved everything and everyone
The space available in the apartment was terrific. The gym was nice as well, a bit sparse but I got my workout in.
Convenient location. We stayed in room 105, and it felt very new and nicely designed. AC kept up with the temps while we were there. Parking was close to the room. They had a pool. The onsite kitchen was great. The gas station was right next door. All walkable. Friendly staff. We would stay here again.
A lot of fun activities for all the family!
clean and good value for money!
Brilliant housekeeping, lovely quiet park in the off season and great facilities in the cabin.
Staff were lovely and helpful! Room was clean and tidy, had everything we needed. Parking was secure, location was quiet! We didn't get to use the pool but there is also a nice pool area perfect for families and solo travellers.
Clean room, comfortable bed, nice location
It was exceptional - location, apartment size, views - amazing
This is an amazing hotel in a stunning location. A massive thank you to the staff for all of their help. The food and location are stunning. We loved waking up to the dawn chorus and watching the lightning storm from our lodge on the last night of our stay. The staff here do everything to make your stay memorable. Thank you, to the manager for checking us in early, with no issues at all after our early flight. Also particular thanks to Jasmine for looking after us so much during our stay and arranging for us to be transported back to the airport by another staff member after heavy rains made taxis unreliable. Thanks also to Kylie for driving us to the airport. A truly 5 star experience.
Great facilities, great room. Clean bathroom
The place was lovely, the view exceptional and the staff polite and friendly. I will make it an annual visit for sure.
-very comfortable room , wil go for Rydges again. -free hotel laundromat -easy drive from here into Darwin and Litchfield National park. - compliments for the cleaners the room was very clean -Dark curtains , comfortable bed. -fresh integrated professional Aircon (room temp adjustable to your needs) (no cheap split units). -overall look of hotel very good and well maintained, all facilities that u could need are available within the hotel.

like everything about FreeSpirit. i always stay here. the staff are very nice and welcome me and my family very well. the food was great thanks
Banyan tree was incredible - best things were happy hour, followed by dinner and live music under the Banyan tree lit up by fairy lights. Truly magical and felt like something out of a fairy tale! The cabin had all of the essentials and well-presented.
