It is in a new area that is still developing. At the moment it is an “airport” hotel. But a very good one. But the best thing was meeting Derek who was wonderful in devising an itinerary for Gansu province for me. He booked trains, flights and hotels for me. This was wonderful good luck that he was there to help me. Gansu is really worth seeing but not easy to negotiate for a single western tourist

Located in the heart of the Xiahe Tibetan Region, the hotel offers accommodation literally next to the entrance to the famous Labrang Monastery, and only 10 minutes walk from the bus station. The owner and the staff were more than happy to help me enjoy my stay to the fullest - they helped me rent a bike to explore the grassland, and also offered some really good food recommendations. The room was clean and very homey, I was surprised to find it was exceptionally quiet even with all rooms occupied around me, which cannot be said about most hotels in general. Maybe it’s the thick walls. I ended up staying two nights and had a well deserved rest. There’s also an option to get a really tasty local breakfast for only 20q, with local bread, honey and proper coffee! I will definitely stay there again next time I’m in Xiahe!

A glimpse of the Muslim parts of China
Lanzhou is a compact city but serves as a good introduction to the Muslim community of China. The Museum of Gansu has a good exhibition outlining the history of the Silk Road and Tea Trade. Also this is a good base for those looking to travel further west to Xinjiang or Tibet. Lastly, looking at the natural terrain of Gansu through the train window was really eye opening. Very memorable.

Nice relaxed city. not much to do besdies for the fortress which is really nice, less people compared to other sites in china- this is true for every place in gansu ive been. great wall paintings in the fortress as well.

Great place! 10 minutes walk to the west entrance to the rainbow mountains. Service was above average (when we arrived we were driven to a place to have lunch). You can eat hotpot for dinner. Tents are very comfortable!!
