The location is the perfect starting point to explore the area and get deeper into the jungle. The staff (I think it’s a family business) is super nice and helpful in organizing tours. The restaurant is fantastic, too. We absolutely loved it here.

Hotel Lara's Planet offers pet-friendly accommodation in El Castillo de La Concepción. The hotel has a barbecue and sun terrace, and guests can enjoy a meal at the restaurant. The location was great. The food was great - nice to have home-grown vegetables cooked well with the meals. The staff was helpful arranging tours and reserving the return boat. The room was comfortable. The views across the river from the dining area and the terrace below it were amazing.

Nastanitev La Mariola - Finca Agroecológica je v mestu El Castillo de La Concepción in ponuja teraso. The cabin is super beautiful, the view over the river is amazing. You can listen to and observe a lot of birds, including colibris, and enjoy the peaceful nature. Saul is a super attentive host. He provided us with a lot of helpful information on options for tours in the area and how to get to the place from San Carlos and even organized our transport to the cabin from the port of El Castillo. So our tour of Indio-Maiz was all organized before our arrival and turned out great. The adjacent farm is super cool as well, he gave us a little tour for free explaining how he keeps the bees and showed us the cacao plants and more. The project of building an organic agroforest in this area is super interesting.

Guacimo lodge sits in 40 hectare primary forest property situated close to El Castillo and Indio Maiz biosphere reserve. It features river view bungalows, a large rancho, a yoga deck and a pool. Guacimo is a place we will not forget! My husband and I spent 4 nights here and absolutely loved it. The staff arranged everything for us beforehand in terms of transportation (driver from Managua for a reasonable price, followed by a 2-hour boat ride) and it was well worth the journey. The staff are helpful and kind. Franklin was especially attentive and went above and beyond to make sure our trip was special. We did four of the available tours, which allowed us to see some local wildlife as well as spend time in a nearby town, El Castillo. Gustavo did our wildlife tours and we were so impressed with his knowledge of local flora and fauna. Highly recommend coming here!!

A great place to stay! A lovely old house, clean, comfortable and on a quiet street close to the centre for the bus and boats. The owners are extremely kind people, I needed to change my dates twice due to a chane of plans and then unforseen circumstances and they were very generous and understanding. I booked and stayed here both times I was in San Carlos. Overall, fantastic value and would absolutely recommend a stay here!

The staff was awesome, super friendly and accommodating. Modest and comfortable rooms. Good wifi. We were there before heading on to Nicaragua. The owner was very helpful to make sure we had what we needed before leaving. Very nice Costa Rica typical breakfast. Great location a couple blocks off the highway from the big stores/bus station. 4 or so blocks from the river park and bank. Los Chiles is also a pretty quiet town, which was nice. The river front park is new too and nice for our kids. We will definitely stay there again next time we are coming through the area.

Cano Negro is a birder's dream and Andrea will make the experience even better. In his lodge alone you can see more than 100 species including the beautiful toucans and also rare wrens and all kind of colorful Tanagers and of course the famous Cano Negro waterbirds. You can also see the usually very shy Spider Monkeys very close when they visit his garden. Well done and we come again!

Great accommodation in Cano Negro. Family who run it is really nice and helpful, there were no problem with anything. The accommodation is really nice, it sits in a large garden which is connected to small lagoon. It is clean, has coffee maker (which is important for me:). Next to the Poponjoche is restaurante Fogon, which has the best meal I ate during our month in Costa Rica. We are birdwatchers so wanted to take the tour on lagoons. We did our search in the village and than decided to take son of owner of Poponjoche as guide since he can speak english. His father who is good bird guide went also with us. We were happy we choose them. Beware, there is NO BUS from Cano Negro to Upala or Los Chiles on Sunday!!! And taxi can get really expensive on this day.
