Situated 1.5 km from Takayama Station, Iroriyado Hidaya is a recently renovated 4-star accommodation in Takayama, boasting a garden, a shared lounge and private parking. The staff of Iroriyado Hidaya was exceptionally friendly and helpful, also with regard to our kids; their genuine kindness and hospitality is a memory we will treasure. Using the traditional clothing and onsen was also a one of a kind experience. With our rental car the ryokan was a good exploration base for the surrounding area. And there is a really good authentic restaurant around the corner. If we got a chance in the future we would definitely come again!

Offering a shared lounge and quiet street view, Toraya is set in Gero, 48 km from Takayama Station and 49 km from Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village. It was quiet and very clean. The staff was helpful. We booked a private bath which was very enjoyable - a nice introduction to onsens!

There are no words to describe our experience in Shiroyamakan. Everything was exceptional, the installations, the personnel, the atmosphere, the location, simply, there are no words. The food is another part of the history. Yes, can be weird that the dinner is at 6 pm, but it has an explanation that you must experience by yourself. It was the most beautiful and memorable experience in our traveling life. Arigatou so much to the family, you made us feel in your home.

Founded in 1860, Juhachiro is located along Nagara River and boasts indoor and outdoor natural hot spring baths. The property is a 15-minute bus ride from Gifu Train Station. Nice experience in a high-end traditional Japanese hotel. We were the only western tourists. Very nice onsen with amazing "muddy bath". Delicious meals, very good buffet breakfast.

Offering traditional Japanese-style accommodation with spacious public baths, Yatsusankan is a 6-minute walk from JR Hidafurukawa Train Station. This hotel was one of the few Ryokans that truly keep the history alive. From the front desk to the structure of the hotel, I felt like I was taken back in time to the Edo Period. The hospitality of the hotel was like entering into a 5 star hotel. They truly explain the details and try to meet all your needs. The hotel and onsen was absolutely beautiful. The food was the best I've had at a Ryokan so far. This hidden gem is truly a hotel I'd recommend to anyone. The Hida village is an absolute beauty as well, with not too many tourists at the time I went. Everywhere I look was just so mesmerizing. I truly felt spoiled and rested at this Ryokan. This place made my entire Japan trip a memorable one.
