Our stay at Iroriyado Hidaya was one of the highlights of our 2-week trip. The hospitality was exceptional, probably the best we've ever experienced even in comparison to other more expensive ryokans. Staff were extremely kind and helpful; we had our own itinerary planned out, but we've seen how they assisted other foreign guests with recommendations to visit around Takayama. We had a Japanese speaker in our group, but the language barrier should not be much of an issue as they use a translation device with international guests. Location is quite a bit of a walk from the station, though we felt that it was worth it and they were extremely willing to help with taxi reservations for the next and subsequent mornings. Very highly recommended to stay here :)

A wonderful experience: the view from the camera and the onsen seems to a paint; the room service was accurate, detailed and awesome.The nicest staff I've ever seen (we annoyed the staff with a lot of requests and they satisfied all of them). I think is one of the best place not only for starting or ending the Nakasendo way but also just for resting your body and mind.

It’s really beautiful, very close from the express bus station (which I expect how most of the tourists access Shirakawa-go), the owners are super nice and wholesome, and serves a great meal plus super relaxing hot spring. I absolutely enjoyed my two days stay and made my first time ever trip to Shirakawa-go even more special. I strongly recommend to take the meals served (both dinner and breakfast) because they not only taste lovely but also very healthy! I will definitely revisit here if I come around Gifu-ken!

Situated in a tranquil area in Gifu Region, a 52-minute drive away from JR Takayama Station, Mozumo boasts a hot-spring bath and rooms decorated with modern Japanese interior. We absolutely loved everything about Mozumo! We were two couples travelling together, we stayed for one night and had dinner all together in one of the rooms. The rooms were very beautiful, in traditional style, comfortable, quiet, and the private onsen was incredible. As for the dinner, one of the best we've ever had. And the staff was extremely polite and helpful. Thumbs up to the lady that was serving our dinner, she was so kind, made us feel so welcome and cared for our every need. Overall, it's a 200% recommended experience!

We were the only western tourists. Very nice onsen with amazing "muddy bath". Delicious meals, very good buffet breakfast.

Awarded by TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice in 2015, Wanosato offers luxurious Japanese-style ryokan stay in a 160-year-old quaint Gassho-zukuri thatched-roof house, nestled in the tranquil woods. Everything! My husband and I can’t thank the team of Wanosato enough. It was such an amazing experience and they were so kind, gentle and thoughtful. One of the highlights - if not THE highlight - of our trip.

Yatsusankan menawarkan akomodasi bergaya tradisional Jepang dengan pemandian umum yang luas, dan berjarak 6 menit jalan kaki dari Stasiun Kereta JR Hidafurukawa. If you are looking for a traditional ryokan experience, then Yatsusankan is the place for you. We particularly enjoyed the food and the onsen. The staff was able to assist us in English whenever we needed them, which positively surprised us in a remote town such as Hida.

Sumiyoshi Ryokan menawarkan akomodasi bergaya Jepang di gedung townhouse yang bersejarah, 1 menit berjalan kaki dari Pasar Pagi Miyagawa yang populer di jantung Takayama. Everything. The warm and incredible service, the traditional Japanese room, the sounds of the river, location and having the onsen which you can lock to make it private was great! The family that runs it is just amazing. So lovely, hard working and makes you feel like you’re part of the family!
